Frantz Kantor is an Australian illustrator, cartoonist, comic artist, animation director, and production designer with a career spanning over four decades across comics, animation, film, advertising, and live entertainment. Beginning as a professional illustrator in the late 1970s, Frantz quickly became a sought-after visual storyteller, producing editorial illustrations, caricatures, and storyboards for major magazines, newspapers, publishers, and advertising agencies in Australia and internationally. His work has appeared everywhere from MAD Magazine and national newspapers to large-scale advertising campaigns for global brands, establishing him early on as a versatile artist with a strong narrative voice and distinctive visual style.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Frantz moved into creative leadership roles as an Art Director and Animation Director, shaping visual identities and animated content across television, stage productions, and branded entertainment. He served as Creative Art Director for international youth brands, leading global campaigns across print, film, and digital media, and later co-founded and directed animated series productions, overseeing everything from character design and storyboarding through to final animation and voice direction. His production design work for live shows and musicals earned commendations from the Australian Production Design Guild, reflecting his ability to translate illustration and animation principles into large-scale theatrical environments.
In recent years, Frantz’s work has continued to evolve across both traditional and emerging media. Recent highlights include mascot character designs for the ICC Cricket World Cup, large-scale sculpted character installations for the Australian Pavilion at World Expo Osaka 2025, and award recognition from the Australian Cartoonists Association. Alongside commercial and cultural projects, he remains deeply committed to comics, illustration, and visual storytelling as art forms—creating original comic projects, illustrated books, and experimental animation that blend classic cartoon sensibilities with modern tools.
Alongside his professional practice, Frantz is also a passionate educator and mentor, having taught illustration, animation, and visual storytelling at leading design institutions for many years. Looking forward, his focus is on expanding original comic and animated IPs, hybrid art exhibitions, and new publishing projects that celebrate drawing, cartoons, and imagination in all their forms. At Supanova, Frantz brings a lifetime of stories from behind the scenes of illustration, animation, comics, and pop culture—and a belief that drawing remains one of the most powerful storytelling tools ever invented.
