“Hello, Dexter Morgan.” It’s been 16 years since John Lithgow’s Trinity Killer uttered those words in Dexter season 4, but the Trinity Killer is back, along with a slew of franchise veterans and a host of new faces in the latest expansion of the Dexter franchise.
Arriving on Paramount+ later today, July 11, Dexter: Resurrection will continue the fascinating tale of Michael C. Hall’s titular killer of killers after 2021’s Dexter: New Blood saw him shot by the hand of his son.
With Dexter’s triumphant return imminent, we thought it might be time to take a look at what we know about Hall’s return as the infamous Bay Harbor Butcher.
BUT DIDN’T HE DIE?
First of all, we need to address the elephant in the room. Back when Hall returned for his first Dexter sequel series in 2021, the 10-episode mini-series Dexter: New Blood ended with Dexter being gunned down by Jack Alcott’s Harrison Morgan. While the show’s final moments presumably displayed Dexter’s dying breath, 2024’s prequel series opened by showing him being rushed to hospital.
With the entirety of Dexter: Original Sin season 1 framed as being Dexter’s memories flashing before his eyes as he is rushed into surgery, Dexter: Resurrection will show that he does indeed survive to kill another day.
WHO ELSE IS COMING BACK?
Hall is not the only character returning from the original series and its 2021 sequel, and audiences should expect several familiar faces from his past. In addition to Alcott’s Harrison, Hall is set to be joined by multiple former castmates, including Lithgow (The Trinity Killer), James Remar (Harry Morgan), David Zayas (Angel Batista), Jimmy Smits (Miguel Prado), and Erik King (James Doakes). Even Dexter season 1 villain, and Dexter’s brother, the Ice Truck Killer Christian Camargo has hinted at his possible return via TikTok, but that has not been officially confirmed.
WHO ARE THE NEW FACES?
Dexter fans are certainly in for a treat when Dexter: Resurrection hits their screens this month. In addition to luring back so many original stars, showrunner Clyde Phillips has also packed out his latest sequel show with a swathe of new A-list talent, including Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Krysten Ritter, Neil Patrick Harris, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian.
WHERE DOES DEXTER FIND HIMSELF NOW?
Recovered from his gunshot wound, and now on the run, Dexter: Resurrection will see Hall’s killer anti-hero seek to hide in the world’s largest urban jungle, New York City. But his life on the lam will be anything but smooth sailing, as he finds himself drawn into the schemes of Leon Prater, a mysterious billionaire with a passion for serial killers, played by Game of Thrones’ Dinklage.
It is through Prater’s efforts that Dexter will be introduced to a suite of other killers, including Ritter’s Lady Vengeance, Harris’ Tattoo Collector, Stonestreet’s Rapunzel, and Dastmalchian’s Gemini Killer. With such a rich assortment of potential victims, each with their own share of blood on their hands, it will be interesting to see how well Dexter can resist his own Dark Passenger as he also attempts to seek out his missing son and avoid capture by his former friend, Captain Batista.
