Heroes inspire us all, including Supanova Sydney and Perth’s very talented Supa-Stars, comic creators and more. A handful of June guests shared their favourite super and real-life heroes with us.
Donny Cates (Comic book writer – Venom, Thanos, Doctor Strange)
“My favourite hero of all time is Peter Parker, and I say Peter and not Spider-Man for a reason. As we know, anyone can be Spider-Man, but Peter has a power that no one ever talks about – Peter’s superpower that makes him different from all the other Spider-Men is that he falls down a lot, but always gets back up. He’s got the biggest heart in comics – he’s my best friend.”
Andrew Constant (Comic book writer – Torn, Kid Phantom, The Demon: Hell is Earth)
“I like Batman because he’s cool, I like Punisher because he’s bad.”
Eric Stuart (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon)
“Batman, easily. He’s just a real guy and he doesn’t have any superpowers. He’s tormented like most people can be and he could easily make the shift to be a villain, but he has just enough control to keep himself on the straight and narrow.”
Dawn Wells (Gilligan’s Island)
“Katharine Hepburn was one of the greatest actresses alive.”
Dan Green (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Sonic X, Viva Pinata)
“This is difficult because I love them all, but Daredevil. His abilities are heightened abilities of something everybody else understands. Other than that, he’s just a guy; if he gets shot by a bullet, he’s gone, but he still takes the risks to do the best he can.”
Megan Hutchison (Comic book artist – Rockstars, Will O’ the Wisp, Vesna)
“My favourite superhero is Death from all of The Sandman books. She’s immortal and eternal and she looks really dope, and she has great hair and she’s really fun to draw, and she’s really pretty and she likes birds, and she’s my friend and I sometimes dress like her. I go to shows a lot and people scream at me like, ‘I love your Death cosplay,’ and I’m like, ‘Nope, that’s just what I wear and that’s what I look like all the time,’ so she’s kind of like my fashion icon.”
Barbara Feldon (Get Smart)
“Faye Emerson – she was on television in the ‘50s and she had a talk show. She was beautiful and she was very smart and my great dream was to have a talk show like Faye Emerson.”
Humberto Ramos (Comic book artist – Amazing Spider-Man, Superior Spider-Man, Champions)
“Batman – because he is the favourite.”
Simon Bisley (Comic book artist – Lobo, Batman/Judge Dredd, ABC Warriors)
“Daredevil – his costume is awesome and I love that he’s just so physical and active. One of the main reasons is because of Gene Colan, the artist.
