Ever since George Lucas handed over the keys to the Star Wars franchise in 2012, Disney have been busy building on the brand and have delivered a slew of new content set in that very famous galaxy far, far away. While older Star Wars fans can remember having to wait years, sometimes even decades for a new film, more recent times have delivered a near constant flow of new saga films, spin-off movies, animated series, and live-action television shows.

Next up on Lucasfilm’s very ambitious release schedule is none other than Ahsoka, written and helmed by Lucas’ own Padawan learner Dave Filoni. Praised for his extensive knowledge and deep understanding of what makes Star Wars such a beloved property, this new series will not only see Rosario Dawson reprise the role of Anakin Skywalker’s former apprentice Ahsoka Tano, but it will also see several other beloved characters make their live-action debut, including: Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Ezra Bridger and even the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn.

However, rumours have also emerged that another famous Star Wars character could make an appearance in the new series, none other than The Force Unleashed character Galen Marek AKA Starkiller. Yet in a world where casting rumours and “leaked” plot details should always be taken with a pinch of salt and a tall frosty glass of “yeah, like that’ll ever happen”, we decided to dust off the good old Supanova Scuttlebutt-o-meter©®™ (Patent Pending) to get to the bottom of it.

So, stand back Supa-Fans, we haven’t plugged this mechanised monstrosity in for a while. But if the cobwebs don’t cause it to explode, we might just learn something new about this latest rumour.

So, what’s the goss?

While everyone’s attention is currently preoccupied with Grand Admiral Thrawn, and two new orange lightsaber wielding force-users in the form of Ray Stevenson’s Baylan Skoll and Ivanna Sakhno’s Shin Hati, certain voices on the internet are suggesting that Filoni is planning to shock everyone by introducing Darth Vader’s secret apprentice Galen Marek as another antagonist in Ahsoka.

Where did all this come from?

Even before audiences got their first look at the upcoming Ahsoka series, many die-hard fans were hoping to see Starkiller make the leap over into official Star Wars canon and provide viewers with an epic showdown between Anakin Skywalker’s and Darth Vader’s respective apprentices. At first, this seemed little more than idle speculation, but then in June this year Empire Magazine shared an image of an unnamed Inquisitor that sent people into a renewed flurry of speculation.

Not only does this image raise questions about why an Inquisitor would appear in a series set after the events of Return of the Jedi, but many have suggested that it may actually be Sam Witwer beneath the mask finally bringing his beloved videogame character to life.

Adding further fuel to the fire, Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen is also rumoured to be making an appearance throughout the events of Ahsoka. If true, the prospect of having the force ghost of Anakin Skywalker show up and explain the origins of his own Dark Side apprentice to his original Padawan is just too delicious a theory to ignore.

Moreover, Lucasfilm has already given Starkiller a direct nod in recent years, most notably placing his Sith Stalker armour as an easter egg in Andor season 1.

What’s the verdict?

After cleaning out the cobwebs, we finally plugged the Supanova Scuttlebutt-o-meter©®™ (Patent Pending) into the nearest available power socket and crossed our fingers. Unfortunately, after a few ear-piercing screeches and an ungodly shudder which nearly caused the ceiling to come down on our heads, the blasted thing did its best Han Solo impression and muttered: “Never tell me the odds.” Refusing to elaborate further, it quickly entered the nearest asteroid belt and was never heard from again.

So as much as we would love to see Ahsoka cross paths with Galen Marek, it just seems this one is little more than wishful thinking with a dash of clutching at straws. Who knows though? Filoni has been known to surprise us in the past and may very well do so again. As such it’s probably best to call this rumour: highly unlikely, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed anyway.
