Confirmed Guests Screen Watch: October’s Film & TV Buzz Wrap-Up

Surely it can’t be the end of October already? But it is folks, and with all this movie and TV news to keep us busy, it’s little wonder the days go by so quickly. If you’ve missed out on some of this month’s hot goss, don’t fret, we’ve got you covered.

Here it is, folks, some of the biggest news from the big and small screens alike!

Scream

What better way to start off today’s Halloween wrap-up than with a new trailer for the fifth Scream film? Featuring the return of Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers), and David Arquette (Dewey Riley), this new film is set 25 years after the events of the original slasher that started it all.

Ghostbusters

Keeping in theme with the spooky season, Ghostbusters: Afterlife has released a new international trailer.

Evil Dead

Lee Cronin, director of the upcoming Evil Dead Rises, has shared a post indicating filming has officially wrapped on the fifth film in the franchise. Sadly, Bruce Campbell will not star in this one, but he is executive producing and personally picked Cronin to helm the project.

DC

Of course, the biggest thing to come out of DC this month was the massive DC FanDome line-up, jam-packed full of new trailers and official sneak peeks. If you missed our FanDome round-up earlier this month, you can find it here.

DC’s had more going on since FanDome, though, and Supanova alumni Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum have recently spoken about their planned Smallville animated series, which is set to feature much of the same cast as voice actors. Rosenbaum has said: “It’s something we’re really passionate about, something that we love. And we’re obviously going to share it with Warner Bros. when the time is right.”

The Mummy’s Brendan Fraser already provides the voice of Robotman in DC’s Doom Patrol, but new reports have him linked to play an unnamed villain in the upcoming HBO Max Batgirl movie (though rumours are he might be playing Firefly).

Aquaman director James Wan has revealed that the scrapped spin-off The Trench was actually a cover for a Black Manta film starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. While that film is not going ahead, Abdul-Mateen is still set to return in next year’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Marvel

Marvel Studios has been doing some Phase 4 calendar shuffling this month, pushing back a number of key release dates and removing two other films from its slate altogether:

• Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been pushed back from March to May 6, 2022
• Thor: Love and Thunder has moved from May to July 8, 2022
• Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever is moving from July to November 11, 2022
• The Marvels will move from 2022 entirely and be released on February 17, 2023
• Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will move to July 28, 2023

Additionally, two other Marvel untitled films have been pulled altogether, while another has been moved to November 3, 2023. Only the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 release date of May 5, 2023, remains unchanged.

Sony, however, has done the opposite with its Marvel properties and has announced two new mystery movies for June 23 and October 6, 2023, set in its Spider-Man universe.

With the weeks ticking down until Spider-Man: No Way Home gets released, Empire Magazine has a series of new shots from the film including Tom Holland’s Peter Parker running away from Doc Ock in the Iron Spider suit.

Indiana Jones

The MCU isn’t the only one getting some release date delays, and the as-yet-untitled Indiana Jones 5 has been pushed back 11 months from July 2022 to June 2023.

Star Wars

Hayden Christensen is already set to return to the Star Wars universe in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, but it would seem that’s not the end of his tenure. Christensen is now also set to reprise his role of Anakin Skywalker for the Ahsoka series alongside Rosario Dawson.

Uncharted

The upcoming Uncharted film adaptation has an all new trailer, promising a wild ride for young Nathan Drake. Stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg introduce it to Supa-Fans in the video below!

Riverdale

While sadly The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was axed after its fourth season, Kiernan Shipka is not yet done with the role and is popping up in Riverdale season six. A new trailer reveals Sabrina’s return.

Cowboy Bebop

Netflix has released a new trailer for its live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation. The series is set to hit screens on November 19.

Dune

Not that there was ever much doubt, but Dune Part 2 has officially been greenlit following the successful international premiere of the new adaptation from Denis Villeneuve. The first film only covers about half the events in the original book, and part two is now expected to be released in 2023. Australian audiences will be able to check out part one in December.

Red Notice

Ryan Reynolds has shared the trailer for his new team-up with Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot on Netflix. Red Notice is set to hit the streaming service on November 12.

The Witcher

Last but certainly not least, toss a coin to your witcher because Geralt is back! The official trailer for season two of The Witcher has dropped ahead of its release on December 17.
