‘Star Wars’ Supa-Stars That ‘Once Were Warriors’ Sign-On For Melbourne & Gold Coast!

Written by Supanova Comic Con & Gaming - February 19, 2025Maddie Purdon

From Aotearoa into outer space, now blasting into Melbourne (29-30 March) and the Gold Coast (12-13 April)! Supanova Comic Con & Gaming’s latest wave of Supa-Star guest announcements is heralded by two of New Zealand’s premier performers, Temuera Morrison and Rena Owen.

Morrison and Owen famously starred in the critically acclaimed Once Were Warriors, the highest-grossing NZ film of all time, and recipient of numerous awards from across the globe, including the Grand Prize at Montreal, and Best First Film at Venice, as well as three Best Actress Awards for lead Rena Owen.

In 2002, both actors found their place in a galaxy far, far away, making their Star Wars debuts as Jango Fett and Taun We in Episode II – Attack of the Clones. Morrison would of course go on to assume the mantle of Boba Fett across the blockbuster franchise, with Owen recently reprising her Kaminoan role in Star Wars: The Bad Batch, starring fellow Supa-Star Michelle Ang.

Meanwhile, Melbourne’s comic creators are in no short supply, now boasting the likes of Alejandro Barrionuevo (Teen Titans), Jake Bartok (High Republic Adventures: Dispatches From the Occlusion Zone), Shaun Keenan (XTreme Champion Tournament), Killeroo creator Darren Close, as well as Neverlanders illustrator Jon Sommariva, appearing with the book’s previously announced co-creator Tom Taylor, who will attend both cities.

Ghost Rider’s Daniel Picciotto leads the charge onto the Gold Coast, joined by Adam Nichols (Star Wars: The Force Unleashed), and Ben Bradi (Upperdeck Marvel), as well as CAVITY’s Justin Randall and Jenny Mackintosh exclusively in April.

Finally, literature lovers won’t want to miss returning Supa-Star Michael Earp (Avast! Pirate Stories From Transgender Authors), alongside New Dawn Publishing authors Madeline Te Whiu (Soul Thief Trilogy), Juliet Marillier (The Amber Owl), Kate Forsyth (Psykhe), and Maria Linwood (Mistress of Amber and Flame) appearing at both events.

Supanova newcomers Bronwyn Eley (The Riven Trilogy) and Tigest Girma (The Immortal Dark) will attend only in Melbourne, with IFWG Publishing’s Jason Franks, Steven Paulsen, Peter Lawson, and Jan Scherpenhuizen also added to the literary line-up. Scherpenhuizen will return in April for the Gold Coast show, representing the local publishing house with Gerry Huntman, Jeffery E. Doherty, and Helen Stubbs.

Tickets to Melbourne and the Gold Coast are on sale now, along with strictly limited tickets to both cities’ after-hours Supanova @ Sunset VIP Event. Autographs and Photo-Ops will be released closer to the March and April events.
