Screen Watch: April’s Film & TV Buzz Wrap-Up

Written by TC Phillips - April 30, 2022Daniel Cribb

It’s been another massive month in pop culture news, and we’ve kept our ear close to the ground to bring you some of the biggest news from both the big and small screens alike. If you’ve been too busy to keep up-to-date with all the film and TV goss from the past few weeks, don’t fret, we’ve got you covered with the most important titles you might have missed!

Marvel

It’s only a short jump away to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but Marvel has released one last trailer highlighting all the multiversal shenanigans in store for audiences.

Speaking of trailers, the long awaited first teaser trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder also arrived this month, showing off an armoured Natalie Portman wielding Mjolinir as the Mighty Thor.

Another Disney+ series just around the corner, Ms. Marvel‘s new teaser dropped, with the series due for release on June 6.

DC

It’s been a long time coming, but it looks like season three of the animated Harley Quinn series won’t be too far off now. Showrunner Patrick Schumacker recently took to Twitter to drop a hint about when the third season will finally hit screens in the US.

I do know the release date, but I’m not allowed to tell. It is going to be in the time of year that rhymes with “schmummer.”

New rumours indicate Warner Bros. are narrowing in on Gangs of London’s Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù to be the next in line to tackle the role of John Constantine for a new iteration of the character on HBO Max. The series is set to be produced by J.J. Abrams.

In a recent interview with Forbes, Gal Gadot has given an update on Wonder Woman 3. “We’re actually in the mix of working on the script and getting the third one made,” she said, “so it’s all wheels are working and turning and I’m super, super excited for the fans to come and watch Wonder Woman 3 once it’s made.”

Riverdale’s KJ Apa and Young Sheldon’s Isabel May have been cast as the titular Wonder Twins in the upcoming DC film set to stream on HBO Max.

Star Wars

The release date for Obi-Wan Kenobi was officially pushed back three days from Wednesday to Friday, 27 June. Disney+ had Ewan McGregor make the announcement himself, but he also revealed that the first two episodes will drop on the new release date.

Disney+ has also announced that May the 4th won’t go by without some fresh Star Wars content, revealing that a new special on the making of The Book of Boba Fett will drop on Star Wars day.

Netflix

Fans have been waiting for Stranger Things season four for a while now, but thankfully the wait for the penultimate season is almost over. A new trailer hints at what’s in store for a now powerless Eleven and her friends back in Hawkins.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is getting back in the spy game. Netflix has recently announced the cast of a new, as-yet untitled, original series which will see Arnie play a CIA officer alongside his daughter (Top Gun: Maverick’s Monica Barbaro). Also joining the cast is his fellow Terminator Gabriel Luna.

Percy Jackson

The upcoming Percy Jackson series has found its lead in the form of The Adam Project’s Walker Scobell, who is known for playing the younger version of Ryan Reynold’s character. The series will debut exclusively on Disney+.
