“There will be no negotiating with the apprentice of Anakin Skywalker.”
It’s been over 17 years since George Lucas and Dave Filoni first introduced the world to Ahsoka Tano, and in that time she has watched ancient orders fall, Empires crumble, and the return of perhaps the greatest threat to the fledging New Republic in the form of the master tactician, Grand Admiral Thrawn.
With Supa-Star guest, and Ahsoka season 1 star Diana Lee Inosanto set to join us at Supanova in Adelaide (31 October – 2 November 2025), we thought it might be timely to see what the show’s upcoming sophomore season has in store for fans now that Inosanto’s Morgan Elsbeth succeeded in her quest to bring Thrawn back from his intergalactic exile.
When Will ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 Arrive?
At this stage, there is no official release date for Ahsoka season 2, though we do know that filming on the new season has already kicked off as of April this year, shortly after this year’s Star Wars Celebration Japan.

Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) in ‘Ahsoka’
Given that filming on season 1 took roughly six months, and officially wrapped in October 2022, best estimates would suggest that fans can probably expect season 2 to land mid to late next year, and likely after next year’s The Mandalorian and Grogu movie due for release in May.
Where Does ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Movie Fit In?
With the recent release of the new trailer for next year’s Mandalorian and Grogu, some fans may question how that will fit into Ahsoka season 2. While it is not explicitly clear, the new Star Wars movie is expected to follow directly on from the events in The Mandalorian season 3, which would potentially put it in the same timeframe that the events in Ahsoka season 1 also occur.
However, the presence of TIE Interceptors and AT-ATs suggest that an Imperial presence will play a major role in the new movie, and they very well could be Thrawn’s recently returned forces that Din Djarin could find himself facing.
Perhaps the most exciting crossover possibility for fans of The Clone Wars, though, is the appearance of the totally jacked Rotta the Hutt (voiced by Jeremy Allen White), who fans will remember that a young Ahsoka helped to protect as an infant in the original The Clone Wars movie. While it’s unlikely this new movie will set up a potential reunion, given that Ahsoka is still trapped on Peridea, we can still hold out hope.
Who Will Be Returning?
Ahsoka season 2 will feature the return of several key faces, including: Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka Tano), Natasha Liu Bordizzo (Sabine Wren), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Hera Syndulla), Eman Esfandi (Ezra Bridger), Ivanna Sakhno (Shin Hati), David Tennant (Huyang), and Lars Mikkelsen (Grand Admiral Thrawn).
Hayden Christensen has also confirmed that he is due to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, and from his previous comments fans may also be treated to him playing a much larger role than his spectral appearances in season 1.
Moreover, expect even more reunions from Star Wars: Rebels characters, as Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios will be joining the show after his brief cameo appearance in The Mandalorian season 3.
Additionally, the Rebellion’s own OG master tactician, Admiral Ackbar, is also confirmed to be playing a role, potentially setting the stage for a major space battle coordinated by two of the galaxy’s most strategic minds.

Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) and Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) in ‘Ahsoka’
Sadly, however, Baylan Skoll actor Ray Stevenson passed away in 2023, prior to the release of season 1. Instead, his character is now set to be played by Game of Thrones alum, and Stevenson’s close friend, Rory McCann.
What Can We Expect?
While Thrawn may now find himself back in the main Star Wars galaxy, there are still threats to be dealt with on the extra-galactic world of Peridea. As such, fans should probably expect a fight on two fronts, one which pits Thrawn’s forces against an ill-prepared New Republic fleet, and the more mystical threat of Baylan’s quest to uncover the power the Mortis gods, whom Dave Filoni has confirmed will play a role in season 2.
Filoni has also hinted that the delicate balance between the three aspects of the Force is deeply unstable, as evidenced by the partially destroyed statue of the Daughter (who represents the light side of the Force) in the season 1 finale. Check out what he had to say at this year’s Star Wars Celebration:
“The Mortis gods… that’s a thing. We’ll see. Watch season 2 when it comes out, you’ll get a taste of it. You’ll get a taste of a lot of things. It’s a complicated thing… it’s a big mystery: the Son’s there, the Father’s there, most of the Daughter’s there… but we’ll see, we’ll get into it.”
However, given that the entire Mandalorian timeline is expected to be wrapped up in Filoni’s own era-defining movie, don’t expect Ahsoka season 2 to wrap things up neatly. Instead, Thrawn’s quest to reforge the shattered Imperial remnants is likely only just getting started.
In the meantime, come and meet Ahsoka season 1 star Diana Lee Inosanto at Supanova in Adelaide (31 October – 2 November 2025), while fellow Star Wars stars John Boyega and Cameron Monaghan will be at both Adelaide and Brisbane (7-9 November 2025)!
