It was the silver screen that inspired many of our November Supa-Stars to pursue a career in acting, and while they’ve accrued an impressive amount of their own credits over the years, we couldn’t help but ask a few of them about their favourite all-time films when they stopped by Supanova TV in Brisbane.
Your weekend watching is sorted.
(The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Saving Hope)
Baraka
“To me, it’s the one movie you could launch into space and show alien cultures what we were or what human beings might have represented.”
(Addams Family, Casper, Speed Racer)
Star 80
“I love Star 80. I’m a huge Bob Fosse fan – almost every one of his movies is on my list of favourite movies. He used a really innovative structure [in Star 80] and it’s about true crime which I’m fascinated by, and Eric Roberts gave the most brilliant performance I’ve ever seen.”
(TITANS, Big Hero 6, Supah Ninjas)
The Sting
“The first film where I saw the power of cinema and filmmaking was the film The Sting with Robert Redford and Paul Newman. That is a perfect example of a film that’s not just for entertainment purposes; it’s about investing the viewer to the point where they are generally moved.”
(Harry Potter)
Children Of Men
“I really respect [Alfonso CuarÓn] as a director and I think he has the ability to really subtly contextualise a futuristic, apocalyptic story. He doesn’t do it heavy-handedly, he’s very good at showing the context of the world we’re in through the periphery characters and the way he used cinemaphotography.”
(Author of the Star Wars: Thrawn Series, Quadrail series, Cobra series)
“I am going to cheat and give you three, but they’re different enough that I think it’ll work. The first one is The Princess Bride, the second one is The Incredibles and the third one is Infinity War. It’s a mixed bag, but the construction of all of them, from the storyline to the character development to the villains to the plot, all of it just works so well on all the levels.”
(Black Sails, Shameless, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
Braveheart
“It’s everything, it’s every story you ever wanted to hear in one story. It’s all about humans taking responsibility for themselves and not waiting for someone else to do it and I think that’s what life’s all about.”
