Actor, martial artist, photographer and philanthropist, Ryan Potter is shapeshifting in his latest role as “Beast Boy/Gar Logan” on the critically appraised original series, Titans. The show premiered earlier this month on DC Universe, the new DC streaming service and early next year, internationally, on Netflix. Ryan stars opposite Brenton Thwaites (Robin), Teagan Croft (Raven), and Anna Diop (Starfire) in this darker interpretation of the young superhero team.
He was most recently leading the cast as the voice of “Hiro Hamada” in Disney’s Big Hero 6: The Series. The series is based on Disney’s 2014 Academy Award Winning animated feature, Big Hero 6. Ryan is delighted to continue his work alongside original cast members, Maya Rudolph, Jamie Chung, Genesis Rodriguez and Scott Adsit as “Baymax.” Season two will begin airing in 2019. Ryan was raised in Tokyo until the age of seven, and like “Hiro”, his first language was Japanese. Having grown up captivated with manga, anime and the characters of Marvel’s original Big Hero 6 comic, it’s as if the role was made for him.
Ryan got his start as the lead, “Mike Fukanaga” in Nickelodeon’s Supah Ninjas when he was just fifteen. He had the pleasure of working alongside one of his role models, the legendary George Takei.
In his spare time Ryan enjoys travel and photography, often in unison. Documenting his travels, Ryan is currently piecing together several years of photos and compiling them into an immersive gallery titled ‘Every Corner Covered.’ An upcoming exhibition will showcase his incredible work.
Ryan also devotes much of his energy to raising awareness for several charities including Covenant House and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He is grateful for his “Big Brother” of 15 years and is one of the organizations Celebrity Ambassadors. In addition, Ryan will be working closely with Karmagawa, a new and innovative charity community that is helping organizations across the world secure social awareness with beautiful photographic content.
