The highly addictive Ubisoft series Assassin’s Creed has captured the minds of both gamers and history fans alike. From Renaissance Italy to the French Revolution, the Colonial Era to Ptolemaic Egypt, Assassin’s Creed has provided the perfect combination between historic and dramatic storyline, stunning landscapes and aesthetics as well as a versatile range of characters to both play as and work alongside.
With fans still engrossed in the fresh Assassin’s Creed Origins title, we look at where the franchise could go from here.
Fall of the Roman Empire
With the success of Assassin’s Creed: Origins, the ancient world has fascinated many gamers due to its richness in culture, aesthetic marvels and nail-biting political and spiritual conflict. Assassin’s Creed: Origins succeeded in showing the divisions between class and ethnicities central to Egypt at the time, as well as the intense problems this posed. The Fall of the Roman Empire, particularly focusing on the assassination of Julius Caesar, would give fans such an intense storyline to work with. With the possibility of challenging stealth gameplay and more complex missions involving manipulation and deception, this setting could provide Ubisoft with an opportunity to develop a different style of gameplay.
Feudal Japan
Possibly the most requested destination for the Assassin’s Creed series, Feudal Japan has been something that has already been hinted to fans. With this era spanning many years, Feudal Japan provides game developers with a wealth of choice in regard to what point in time would be best to focus on. With concept art recently released, fans can expect to see a storyline that follows the life of the Samurai’s, opening players to a whole new realm of historic armor, weaponry and conflict.
Russian Revolution
With the fall of the Romanov Empire sparking inspiration for many stories within pop culture, the Assassin’s Creed franchise would benefit greatly by bringing its storyline to the Russian Civil War. Although Ubisoft has briefly visited Russia before in Assassin’s Creed: Chronicles, exploring the story in depth during the early twentieth century, with the Revolution and Fall of the Tsar central to propelling the motivation of characters, provides gamers with a complex and interesting insight into this historic event!
Vikings
With game developers ever expanding the travels of its assassins in largely open worlds, a Viking-centric storyline would provide intense travel like that in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed: Origins. What could deal with issues regarding settlement and building a new way of life, this game could potentially heavily focus on nautical battles, combatting impressive storms and terrifying enemies also vying for potential settlement. As players make their way through the game and overcome various conflict, characters could be promoted on deck, providing gamers with new and brutal weaponry to use along the way.
American Mafia
What would be the most modern destination for the franchise (excluding side-missions like those from WW2 in Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate), a game set in the rise of the mobsters and gangsters in the underbelly of New York would showcase a versatile style of gameplay. Similarly to Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, this storyline could provide players with the opportunity to build their own gangs to overthrow the Templars. The challenge of hiding from a growing notoriety would make gameplay increasingly difficult as the story developed, forcing certain missions to only take place at night! Although the costuming of the assassins would be modern and straight forward, it does not shut off creators in developing any hidden armory that was used.
