If our recent batch of Melbourne and Gold Coast Supa-Stars had their way, the TV and film slate over the next few years would look pretty amazing, as evident from the below list of productions they’d like to revive.
Tiffany Grant
Speed Racer
“A much better Speed Racer, a live-action Speed Racer film that doesn’t suck. It’s about racing cars, I mean, my god! They didn’t have to make it so fricking complicated – it’s about racing cars!”
Cooper Andrews
Highlander
“Some of the best shows are ones where you can travel through time and when you can have more than one hero. Highlander is about these immortals and I think they could go more into the psychology of someone living for 450 years… and if anyone is in a position of making Highlander, my name is Cooper Andrews and I would live to be Highlander, but from the highlands of a Polynesian country.”
Ross Marquand
Highlander
“I love the movies, but Highlander the TV series is my all-time favourite. That was my childhood, growing up watching Adrian Paul breathe new life into a MacLeod and seeing that from season one to season seven.”
James O’Barr
Kung-Fu
“I have a personal affection for the Kung-Fu TV series because it was deeply psychological. I just re-watched it recently and every episode is shot like a film. I think that would be a marvellous thing to do, with an actual Asian cast this time.”
R Bruce Elliott
Firefly
“Bring back Firefly because it was robbed. They did one season and then the movies to kind of wrap things up, but the damn network that they put it on kept moving it from night to night to night to night. It was so stupid. It was such a brilliant show and it never had a chance to build a regular audience, so it one lasted one season – one brilliant season.”
Spike Spencer
Firefly
“I love the show and I know some people on it. I just thought it was really fun. It was really great and really well done with super characters.”
Amanda Winn Lee
Tron
“I would love to see the original Tron remade. I was disappointed that they did Legacy. I thought that with the new computer technology that we have, it would be amazing to see that story again with these amazing bad-ass effects. Legacy was okay, but the CGI faces were just a little creepy.”
Katrina Browne
Hercules and Xena
“Because I freakin’ loved being in that show and it’s in my backyard [New Zealand], it had a massive following and it’s the 25th anniversary this year for Xena, so that would be kind of perfect. I would also put myself in the role of Xena.”
Leah Clark
The Facts of Life
“I just loved it when I was little; I loved those characters. When I was old enough to really understand what was going on, it was gone. I would just like to see what’s going on with those characters these days.”
Brian Krause
M*A*S*H
“Bring back with the original cast? I’d like to see M*A*S*H again. I grew up on it and I still watch it today. I think what I liked about the show was the actual humanity of it, with comedy. I don’t think we see enough shows like that today.”
Cassady McClincy
The Office
“If they could get Steve Carell to do it again.”
James Marsters
The Twilight Zone
“I’d clone Rod Serling so we could have a decent Twilight Zone reboot. The original was all about exploring the anxiety and the culture because of the Cold War and coming at it from a lot of different angles with a sci-fi twist. It really was about the anxiety that was all around and I think that there’s a lot of anxiety now. There’s an English show that’s doing that now, [Black Mirror], but I would love Serling to take a stab at it.”
Gaku Space
Friends
“Friends is my favourite show and it’s how I learnt English. I have a special box set with all the DVDs. That’s the only TV show I have on DVD.”
Holly Marie Combs
Picket Fences
“It was the smartest show that I’ve ever done and the ending was very hurried.”
