Shining a light on some of the country’s best emerging and established actors and filmmakers, Supanova Comic Con & Gaming’s Australian Film Showcase returns to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from November 6-7.
One of Australia’s biggest fantasy series and filmed primarily on the Gold Coast, The Bureau of Magical Things will have a presence at the event following the recent premiere of its second season, with lead cast Mia Milnes, Elizabeth Cullen and Julian Cullen, joined by director Martha Goddard for a panel. Following the adventures of a regular teenage girl who discovers an extraordinary world of magic that exists in secret all around her, The Bureau of Magical Things’ first season (streaming via Netflix) won gongs at the Kidscreen Awards and AACTA Awards, while season two, which premiered via Network TEN in June, was acquired by Nickelodeon, who will bring it to a global audience across 170+ countries and territories.
Fresh off the back of sci-fi blockbuster Occupation: Rainfall, writer and director Luke Sparke will take to the Supanova stage to discuss the action-packed film, with some exciting new film productions to be revealed during his panel.
With season one of acclaimed teen mystery drama Dive Club, which was filmed in North Queensland, heading to Netflix at the end of November, series creator and showrunner Steve Jaggi, director Hayley McFarlane and lead writer Georgia Harrison will share insights into the hit show. Internationally, Dive Club went straight to Netflix’s Top 10 in the Kids category, where it stayed for two weeks in over 50 countries, while also trending on Twitter.
For those looking to get their foot in the door of Australia’s burgeoning screen scene, the state’s peak screen body, Screen Queensland, will be hosting a panel with content directors Lucy Markovich and Citt Williams sharing tips on how to break into the industry.
These Australian Film Showcase stars will join the likes of previously announced celebrity guests Tammin Sursok, Todd Lasance, Luke Arnold, Lincoln Lewis and more when Supanova arrives in Brisbane in just over a week! Tickets are on sale now via Moshtix.
