We’ve all been there: browsing through YouTube while stuck inside and something catches your eye. Not something you were searching for, not necessarily something you would search for, but all of a sudden it’s three hours later and you’ve spent the entire afternoon watching someone clean carpets on the internet.
It’s the “Satisfaction Section” of YouTube and it’s filled with all kinds of neat things to just sit and watch the time fly past. No matter what you’re after, there’s hours upon hours of content designed to just sit back, relax, and lose a whole bunch of time to, and we’re bringing you a handful of channels and videos to send you down the rabbit hole.
Use A Fork For Those Stubborn Stains
Firstly, take the team out at LCC Cleaning in Poland, who have been uploading their rug cleaning videos for the last few years. With a whole swathe of equipment, including high-pressure hoses, rotating brushes, squeegees, and even a fork, they get even the worst rugs looking like new again.
Let’s Make Some Happy Little Trees
It probably goes without saying, but Bob Ross’ painting shows are perfect to watch for hours on end. With all 31 seasons in convenient playlists, there’s almost enough smooth painting content to last a month, and with all this free time we’ve got, why not pick up the brushes and have a go yourself? (Also available at 5pm Weeknights on SBS Viceland!)
Crunching Leaves On An Industrial Scale
The somewhat paradoxically-named Boring Channel provides lawn care and clean-up videos, fixing up lawns and gardens throughout the US that need some TLC. If the satisfaction of stepping on a crunchy leaf is about a 10, then surely running a ride-on mower over a giant pile of them is at least 1000.
The Next Station Is Japan, Mind The Gap
Ever wanted to travel through the countryside of Japan? Take a trip with nagomi view who uploads uninterrupted train (and some plane) journeys on a regular basis. Of course, if you’re after something more local, SBS On Demand still has the three hour broadcast of The Ghan online.
They’re Off And Rolling!
We’ve written about the team at Jelles Marble Runs before, but they’ve since gone from strength and strength, upping their production levels and output to include the ‘Marbula 1’, an F1-styled race event (even partnering with the Bundesliga and Formula-E for special events), with all your favourite marble teams competing over 12 events to become champion.
In The Jungle, The Mighty Jungle
And of course, no YouTube rabbit hole discussion is complete without mentioning the plethora of ‘Jungle Survival’ videos out there. While there’s certainly a lot of work going on behind the scenes that the camera doesn’t see (you know, like Survivor), watching functional buildings get built out in the woods like this is nothing short of impressive.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg, Supa-Fans, with toy restoration, diorama building, pressure washing, and many many other kinds of long-form videos to spend the days and weekends zoning out to while the world carries on outside. Let us know on Facebook and Twitter what your favourite left field boredom busters are!
