The Colossus delivered in Deadpool back in 2016 was an onscreen portrayal many fans had waited years for, something German-born Serbian actor Stefan Kapicic, who helped bring him to life, attributes to director Tim Miller who is a mad “comic book geek” who “wanted to do comic book accurate characters”.
Stopping by Supanova TV in Melbourne, Kapicic gave host Quinny some insight into his path to Deadpool.
“I was doing a performance of Romeo & Juliet in Croatia when I got [notified about] a secret project called ‘Wham’, and I thought it was a George Michael biopic. I was like, ‘Okay, this sounds interesting, in a way.’”
His curiosity lingered as the projected changed titles numerous times and the name ‘Wade’ was eventually thrown into the mix before it was announced that Deadpool was in production – “I was like, ‘Oh my god, [the role is] Colossus.’”
Kapicic then did 140 takes for his audition, which he narrowed down to four that were submitted to casting. “Thank god that it worked well. I flew to Los Angeles for a test shooting and then got the role. It was a dream come true; it’s not just a role for me.”
Being a massive X-Men fan himself, Kapicic couldn’t believe it when he read the script for Deadpool 2 – the iconic fight between Colossus and Juggernaut would finally unfold on the big screen.
“I was geeking out while I was reading the script, like, ‘Oh my god, this is really gonna happen, and I’m going to be part of that – I’m going to be in THE fight.’”
