SCREEN WATCH: September’s Film & TV Buzz Wrap-Up

Written by TC Phillips - September 30, 2021David Wheeler

It was an absolutely bumper month for film and television news throughout September, and audiences were treated to a veritable treasure trove of new trailers and special announcements. If you missed out on all the latest goss, however, don’t fret – we’ve got you covered with all the hottest news from the big and small screens alike.

So what are we waiting for? Let’s check out the latest from the world of entertainment.

Netflix

Netflix was the big mover and shaker this month, stunning viewers with a flood of reveals from their inaugural TUDUM event. The streaming giant dropped fresh trailers for a whole bunch of upcoming and continuing series, including fan-favourites Stranger Things and The Witcher.

Stranger Things

The Stranger Things season four trailer gives us a sneak peek of a mysterious and creepy new location, Creel House:

The Witcher

Another hotly anticipated release from Netflix, a new trailer for The Witcher season two reveals Geralt’s mentor Vesemir. Season two hits the platform on December 17.

The Sandman

Based on the cult classic comic book series created by Neil Gaiman, Netflix’s adaptation of The Sandman has also gotten a fresh new teaser. At present, no official release date has been given, so we continue to wait with bated breath!

Cowboy Bebop

‘Tank!’ is already the greatest opening of all time, so naturally the upcoming Cowboy Bebop adaptation didn’t mess with perfection. We are incredibly keen!

Cobra Kai

Another hit Netflix series, the Karate Kid sequel Cobra Kai also got a new trailer for its upcoming fourth season due for release on New Years Eve.

Inside Job

Created by Gravity Falls writer Shion Takeuchi, Inside Job is an adult comedy that parodies common conspiracy theories and features the voices of Lizzy Caplan and Christian Slater. It’s set to debut on Netflix on October 22 and you can check out the all new trailer here (language warning, folks!).

Army of Thieves

The prequel to Zack Snyder’s zombie film Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves has also managed to steal a new trailer ahead of its October 29 release.

All The Latest In Science Fiction

Chronicles of Riddick

Moving away from Netflix, Vin Diesel has taken to Instagram to suggest that the long-awaited fourth instalment in the Chronicles of Riddick franchise may not be too far away. We’re deviating a little from the quote here, but when the hell can we get eyes on that?!

Wheel of Time

Despite having not yet aired its first season, Amazon’s Wheel of Time is already getting a cast shake-up for season two. Barney Harris, who plays Matrim Cauthon in season one, is being replaced by The Witcher’s Dónal Finn for the second season, which has already commenced filming. No reason has been given for Harris’ exit from the show.

The Matrix

If you’ve been living under a rock, you may have missed the first trailer for The Matrix: Resurrections, which shows Keanu Reeve’s Neo living back in the Matrix with no memory of the events from the previous films. We are beyond excited.

Predator

A Predator prequel film, working under the production title of ‘Skulls’, has officially wrapped filming. Helmed by 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg, the flick is set to portray the Predator’s first-ever voyage to Earth and features Roswell, New Mexico’s Amber Midthunder as the lead.

DC

Peacemaker

The Suicide Squad spinoff series Peacemaker starring John Cena has gotten its first teaser clip, ahead of its 2022 release.

Batwoman

A new trailer for Batwoman season three introduces the classic Batman villain The Mad Hatter. Also joining this season is another classic rogue, Poison Ivy, set to be played by Agent Carter’s Bridget Regan.

Injustice

DC’s latest R-Rated animated feature, Injustice, has a new pair of trailers. Based on the video games, the story ultimately finds the Justice League at odds with each other after Superman suffers a tragedy at the hands of the Joker. You can check the more family-friendly trailer below (or see the violent red-band trailer here).

Disney

Hawkeye

The upcoming Hawkeye series has gotten its first official trailer, promising a holiday-themed adventure for the former Avenger, which channels some serious Die Hard energy.

The Little Mermaid

Disney composer Alan Menken, who scored the original animated Little Mermaid, has confirmed that the new live-action adaptation will feature four new original songs that he has co-written with Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda. The tunes are still a ways off, though, with the film slated for release in 2023.
