From film to TV, gaming to comics and everything in between, here’s what you might have missed in pop culture news this week.
The first trailer for Doctor Who series 11 materialised online this week, teasing more about the companions than about the Doctor herself. With plenty of references to Matt Smith’s incarnation, the trailer celebrates a new era for the classic BBC series.
Joss Whedon is making a return to sci-fi with his new show, The Nevers. The series will see a group of Victorian women gain unusual abilities and engage in impossible missions with global implications. As he is responsible for The Avengers, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly, it appears that the series will be in good hands. Yet to confirm a cast, The Nevers has attracted the attention of HBO.
Fans of The Gifted got another look at season two this week, with Fox posting cast predictions to Twitter as its September premiere date approaches.

A first look into Stranger Things’ third season has been released, embracing the extent of what the 1980s had to offer. Featuring Starcourt Mall, the teaser gives no insight to what the third season has to offer, but captures the essence of what the show represents. As announcements are yet to come, it appears Stranger Things will return in early 2019.
With Batwoman joining the Arrowverse in the next crossover, reports now confirm that she is the next to receive her own series. Debuting in 2019, the series will play host to Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) who will write and produce alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns.
Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake, Ghost-Spider and Patriot have assembled in the first trailer for Marvel Rising: Initiation. Reminiscent of traditional 1990s cartoons, it appears the series will tackle a much more nostalgic vibe for television. Marvel Rising: Initiation will premiere on Disney XD on August 13.
Netflix has treated Iron Fist fans to a new season two poster with heavy Steel Serpent references. Though not giving any detail into the plot, Iron Fist’s second season – starring recent “Supa-Star” Finn Jones – is set to be more hands on and hard-hitting than its first.

SBS Viceland announced this week Wellington Paranormal, the spinoff series to Taika Waititi’s What We Do In Shadows, will be broadcasted on the channel, premiering on July 31 across Australia.
“Supa-Star” alumni Nathan Fillon has lived out his and fans’ dreams by starring in his own Uncharted fan film playing Nathan Drake. The short has fantastic production value and left many online wanting more. Who knows, maybe this was made to help greenlight a potential feature film?
Marvel’s Kevin Feige has promised in an interview with the Toronto Sun this week that Avengers 4 will have a definitive ending. “Storylines can come to an end. The best stories come to an end,” he said.
Over in the DC film universe, an epic new poster has surfaced online for the upcoming Aquaman film, promising big things from the December release.
An action-packed trailer for the new Robin Hood movie has dropped, starring Kingsman actor Taron Egerton along a star-studded cast that includes Jamie Foxx, Australia’s own Tim Minchin and more.
The Zombieland sequel has been officially greenlit this week with the full principle cast of Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin resurrecting their roles and Ruben Fleischer returning to the director’s chair. Original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have also returned to pen the script. The film is anticipated for release in October next year, celebrating the first film’s tenth anniversary.
Turn10 has released 55 minutes of gameplay in advance to the release of Forza Horizon 4. Set in Britain, the game will feature weeklong seasons that impact gameplay and alter driving conditions. Forza Horizon 4 is set for release in October.
A new trailer for Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies reveals much more than we could have expected. Zombie tigers, horrific monsters and armies of the undead are just a few of what paves the way for one of the most anticipated games. Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be available on October 12.
Nathan Fillion has bowed out of the Destiny universe, bidding farewell to his animated counterpart Cayde-6. Fillion will be replaced for the next instalment due to scheduling conflicts. Perhaps the aforementioned Uncharted fan film he released has gained traction?
Telltale has released another trailer for The Walking Dead: The Final Season, which is set for release on August 14.
Animelab has announced the ‘colossal’ season three of Attack On Titan will be streaming directly from Japan starting with the premiere on July 23.
Madman Entertainment announced the company has acquired the distribution rights to emotionally-charged anime feature film I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. The film will be released in cinemas across Australia and New Zealand with a yet-to-announced date.

Anime director Mamoru Hosoda’s (Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Wolf Children) latest film, Mirai, has also been announced via Animelab’s social media to hit cinemas nationwide and in New Zealand on August 23.
New comic series Electric Warriors, based on Jack Kirby’s “Great Disaster” storyline in 1972’s Kamandi, will join the Rebirth era of DC Comics.
Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail has announced a prequel comic series based on the hacktivist collective Fsociety’s early years.
Black Panther’s sister Shuri is getting her own series. Hitting shelves this October, the ongoing title will be written by Nnedi Okorafor with art by Leonardo Romero.
Dark Horse has announced three new titles taking place in Mike Mignola’s Hellboy universe: Crimson Lotus, Hellboy And The B.P.R.D.: 1956 and Hellboy Winter Special 2018.
Marvel Entertainment and IDW Publishing will join forces later this year as part of a new agreement delivering middle-grade comics for younger readers.
London-based publisher Titan has announced a series of canon Blade Runner comics set in the cinematic universe of the Philip K. Dick adaptations.
