UPDATE 12/03/2021: Supanova on the Gold Coast is confirmed to be going ahead on 17 – 18 April, while our Melbourne event has been rescheduled for 22 – 23 May 2021. You can find all the latest information here.
With our inaugural online event done and dusted, Supanova Comic Con & Gaming has set its sights on its first in-person tour of 2021, with Melbourne currently slated for 10 – 11 April, followed by the Gold Coast on 17 – 18 April!
In accordance with government health regulations, Supanova team has been quietly working on their COVID-19 safety plans, which are being reviewed by the Victorian and Queensland authorities, respectively. We can assure fans that tickets will NOT be going on sale until we receive final approval from each state’s government, ensuring that the events can be run both effectively and safely.
Beyond the status of this year’s events, fans have been eager to learn whether the convention’s celebrity Supa-Stars will be in attendance – an integral part of the Supanova experience. Supanova is proud to announce its first wave of (mostly) local legends, starting with Lord of the Rings alumni!
After having to postpone, last March, amidst filming for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Miranda Otto is making good on her promise to return to Melbourne and the Gold Coast! One of Australia’s most recognisable stars, Otto quickly rose to prominence as Éowyn in the multi-Academy Award winning trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. She is joined by her Middle-earth co-star and on-screen love, David Wenham a.k.a. Faramir, who is also known for his roles in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Zack Snyder’s 300.
Supernatural alumna Elizabeth Blackmore (Melbourne only) and Power Rangers: Ninja Storm’s Adam Tuominen round out Supanova’s first wave of local legends, but the Aussie stars Are (Not) Alone! International celeb Spike Spencer returns with more tales from inside the robot, instantly recognisable as the voice of Shinji Ikari in the cult classic anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Needless to say, We will be announcing a lot more comic book and literary stars over the next few weeks.
Supa-Star Autographs and Photo-ops will be available to purchase both online and at the events, with the introduction of new safety protocols that are still to be finalised. In addition to these precautions, while the plan is to deliver the same style of event you’ve always enjoyed, offering full trading hours from 10am – 6pm, it’s possible that we will need to implement crowd-limiting methods, such as ‘timed sessions’, etc. We’ll have more info on any and all changes to the norm in the lead up to ticket sales.
One confirmed change is that there will be no Preview Night on Fridays this year, as has previously been offered to Weekend Pass holders. Given the extra preparation that will be required to ensure the weekend runs smoothly, this has been determined to be the most viable solution.
As the team awaits the greenlight for Melbourne and the Gold Coast, fans are encouraged to refer to Supanova’s social media channels for all the latest news on the events.
