With a smile almost as big as the iconic Sydney landmark, recent Supa-Star Karl Urban brought the Billy Butcher to Luna Park with a special Prime Video event celebrating the release of the fifth and final season of The Boys.
Already a handful of episodes in, The Boys Season 5 is shaping up to be its most blood thirsty yet, and showrunner Eric Kripke himself has been telling fans that “no one is safe” – but one person’s career is definitely safe, and that is Urban, who has been collecting IP franchises like Infinity Stones (having starred in blockbusters such as Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, the Marvel Universe, the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie and more).
Chatting to a buzzing crowd at Sydney’s Luna Park, Urban was able to give some hints at upcoming episodes, saying, “Well, as you know, there was a significant character death in the first episode and there is a lot coming up that packs a punch. There is a lot coming up – especially in episodes seven and eight – so have those tissues handy. You’re gonna need ‘em!”
The mischievous Kiwi told the crowd that “we are just so excited for you to see the end of this rocket ship of a ride!”
With fans dressed up as characters from the show mixing with ‘mortals’ in The Boys signature grunge style, the event had the same essence of the show – a kind of realness and edge to the night.
The event itself was just as diabolical as you would imagine, with trays of milk shots being handed out from Homelander’s ‘Milk Bar’, a line of toy babies with neon glowing blue eyes, and a chance to take a photo replicating Butcher’s tentacle powers.
Out of all the weird and wacky and downright disturbing scenes in the series, was there a particular one that really stayed with Urban?
“There were so, so many. So many! Listen, the speedboat through the whale thing was… I was horrified when I read it initially. It’s hard to even comprehend some of the things we get away with.”
