The long-awaited trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom may only be two-and-a-half minutes long, but it’s given us a lot of information to sift through. Here’s what we know so far.
WE HAVE A PLOT
With the island abandoned, security and infrastructure all but demolished by nature and dinosaurs having taken control, the island seems to be under remote monitoring by the government. With a volcanic eruption imminent, the moral question is raised of, ‘Do we rescue these creatures from a certain death, or do we let nature take its course with perhaps a little back up from ammunition?’
A nice hark back to the ethical construct of the original Michael Crichton novel. From there we get full on dino-disaster flick with Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) on a constant cat and mouse with the beasts under a sky of fireballs. Though the director has said this is just scratching the surface of the film’s beginning and the story changes rapidly from there, this concept alone is enough to have us excited.
IAN MALCOM RETURNS!!!
That’s right, the bare-chested chaos theorising doctor as played by the lovable Jeff Goldblum is returning. Seen in the trailer speaking to a judiciary and even dropping his icon line of ‘life finds a way’, it’s unlikely that Dr. Malcom will make a return to the Isla Nublar, given the events of the movie’s prequels. The more accurate scenario would be that Ian is being brought forward due to his expertise and experience in this field and is being questioned on his honest opinions of whether or not people should intervene in the impending catastrophe. It may even be that these early scenes will be the only Goldblum action we get in the new flick, but some is always better than none when it comes to Goldblum.
NEW DINOSAURS
We were promised new dinosaurs and the trailer begins to deliver that, briefly showing Carnotaurus and Baryonyx.
IT’S GOING TO BE DARK
The team behind the flick have always stated they wanted to recapture that terror and horror feeling with the intense scenes of the original Jurassic Park. The trailer only gives a small taste, but the tone has certainly shifted from the wonder and awe of the last entry in the franchise to a constant strive to simply survive.
Fans have cried out for the thrilling undertone to return and it’s within hand’s reach once again. If it’s encountering a recaptured Isla Nublar or the chaos that will ensue from attempting to capture and cage a Tyrannosaur, we should have our fix of edge of seat viewing.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will hit cinemas June 22 via Universal Pictures.
