Unfortunately, Tad is no longer able to join us this weekend in Sydney. He sends his apologies, and we look forward to hosting him next time he is able to attend.
Tad Pietrzykowski is a trailblazer of the Australian comic industry & a founding member of Cyclone Australia.
In 1982, his first graphic novel, The Dynamic Dark Nebula, was published. All he wanted to do is tell a story, get it out of his system. Who knew it’d be regarded as a pivotal moment in Australian comics, leading to what followed. This led to the creation of Cyclone Comics, which set the bar for comic book production and social networking within the Australian comic-creating fraternity.
Tad would’ve loved to work full time writing comics, he also embarked on a professional career in Broadcasting, which lasted 21 years, fifteen of those in the competitive Sydney market.
Dark Nebula would become a regular in Cyclone!, as well as his other creation, The Golden Age Southern Cross, along with co-creator Glenn Lumsden. Both characters would continue in the Dark Nebula ongoing title for eight issues.
2003 would see career-ending injuries for broadcasting, leading Tad to dedicate full-time to Dark Nebula, with the launch of www.thedarknebula.com .
The Dark Nebula was something of a cult favourite in the late ’80s/early 90s. The character has been in print in various forms for 41 years and it’s still going. The website has been in full swing for over 17 years.
The ongoing title is back in action, with #9 – 12 being released in 2021 – 2023. 2022/23 is the 40th Anniversary of both The Dark Nebula and of the Southern Squadron, hence their mini-series The Dark Nebula & The Southern Squadron Rebirth, which is designed for fans old and new.
