Ryan looks forward to meeting all his fans in Sydney in June 2019.
Ryan will give a Q&A panel over the weekend, and sign autographs throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Sydney.
Further information on Ryan’s panel will be listed in our Event Programme, released closer to the convention.
Ryan joined the film industry straight after obtaining his Bachelor of Communications, majoring in Media Arts and Production at UTS in Australia. Since then he has participated in the online component of the Digital Emmy winning Scorched and was a recipient of the AFC (Screen Australia) Producers Initiative Program.
In 2015, Ryan wrote and directed his first short film You Turn that had its premiere at the Sydney Film Festival and received a special mention for his Screen Writing and Directing. The film later screened in the festival’s Traveling Festival that screened all around Australia.
Ryan recently worked with Goalpost Pictures (The Sapphires) on the twelve-part, high concept genre series called Cleverman, which he created and wrote for. Cleverman had its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival and later screened at Series Mania in Paris. The show currently airs around the world on ABCTV Australia, Sundance TV and Netflix in the United States and BBC3 in the UK.
Ryan produced the first season alongside Rosemary Blight, and on the second season produced and wrote. He works in a Show Runners capacity by maintaining his vision but also consulting with Traditional Aboriginal Elders around the cultural elements in the show.
Cleverman is Ryan’s first venture into TV and the show has already won awards nationally. One being for Best Series at the SPAA Awards and, thanks to WETA (Lord of the Rings), Cleverman won Best Hair and Makeup at the ACTAA Awards.
Ryan is currently writing two graphic novels, Cleverman and Lustration for Gestalt Publishing in Australia, and is also looking for funding on his first feature film written by Jon Bell called Disorganized Crime.
Ryan’s goals in the industry are to bring the rebirth of Genre back to Australia as well as flex his genre muscles abroad. Inspired by 1950’s cinema all the way through to the 80’s genre films, Ryan wants to tell similar stories that he was drawn to growing up.
