Brad Newland has been steadily building a reputation as one of Western Australia’s most exciting independent filmmakers. A true “get-it-done” creative force, Brad is the founder of Newland Films, a production company that had its beginnings with cosplay shoots, from superhero scenes in local quarries to Star Wars fan films, growing into an impressive indie powerhouse producing feature-length films.
Brad’s breakout project Remotely Famous—filmed entirely across remote locations in Western Australia—headlined the WA Made Film Festival in 2025 and gained the attention of local media and television. The film follows two young women, Tess and Steph, who embark on aroad trip into the Australian outback hoping to attract a social media following—only to find their survival skills (and their friendship) pushed to the limit when their vehicle breaks down. A sharp and heartfelt exploration of the cost of chasing fame, Remotely Famous showcases both the harsh beauty of the WA landscape and Brad’s gift for combining humour and emotional depth.
