About Guest

Phoebe is a Brisbane-based cartoonist. A diehard fan of comics and cartoons, she believes these forms have a unique power to tell the nuanced, silly, honest and weird stories that no other medium can. She has been drawing comics for as long as she can remember and hopes to continue for as long as she can grip a pen.

She has self-published several comics both online and in print. Her slice-of-life webcomic, The World in the Morning, is a gentle and slow-paced story about friendship, mental illness and suburban Brisbane ennui, currently in its second year of serialisation. She has self-published several romance-oriented minicomics online and is also a prolific creator of autobiographical comics, with a catalogue of hourly journals spanning over six years.

In 2017, she curated the exhibit Queer Comics for MELT, Brisbane’s annual festival of queer arts and culture. Featuring a diverse roster of eight LGBT Australian cartoonists and exploring the queerness of everything from science fiction to suburban Australiana, the exhibit adorned the walls of Brisbane Powerhouse in January and February 2017.

In 2016 she created Nana’s Bad Day, an animated short about the daily difficulties of autistic girls, through Griffith University’s Honours in Animation. Alongside her work in comics and illustration, she continues to work in the animation industry as a character animator, concept designer and story artist.
