Owen looks forward to meeting all his fans in Perth in June 2024.
All guests appearing health and other commitments pending. Stay tuned to our Social Media channels for updates.
Owen is the publisher and editor of Amplified Press, which he founded in 2003 (under the name 24 Hour Cynic). Originally established as an avenue to publish his own comics, over time it broadened its horizons to publish work by dozens of other artists, including notable Australian comic creators such as Greg Holfeld, Dan McGuiness, and Georgina Chadderton.
In 2017, Amplified Press rebranded and adopted its current name in order to reflect a growing focus on amplifying local comics voices. It has since published award-winning and award-shortlisted work by diverse South Australian creators in a range of genres – from comedy to horror, via autobio and science fiction. Notably, Adam Gillespie’s graphic novel Koi won a Bronze Ledger at the Comic Arts Awards of Australia in 2023. And there are more great releases on the horizon!
In addition to guiding the work of others into print, Owen is also the writer and artist of titles such as The Inheritance, A Space Oddity and How To Save The World: A Beginner’s Guide. These comics all showcase his distinctive clean inking style, love of genre, and alternately deadpan and absurdist sense of humour.
Beyond Amplified Press, Owen’s comics have been published in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. He is a recipient of the Bill Mitchell Memorial Award and has twice participated in the Comic Art Workshop. His passion for the medium is further reflected in his role as the co-founder and co-director of Adelaide’s biennial Papercuts Comics Festival.
