College students Maddie, Trish and Chad are inseparable. Maddie is an aspiring concert cellist, who finds inspiration in her work through her fascination with whales. Trish is a PhD student dreaming of a future as a scientist, who side hustles in social media influencing, never feeling financially secure.
But tragedy strikes when Chad dies protecting Maddie during a robbery and Maddie’s hearing is damaged. One year later, Trish is prominent in her field and still shining on social media, while heartbroken Maddie has shelved her music dreams. Trish surprises Maddie, taking her on the vacation of a lifetime–to Thailand! Trish encourages Maddie to visit Ceto – her favourite Orca. But Maddie refuses to financially endorse the whale’s captivity, so alongside ex-pat Josh, they break in to see her.
The next morning, they instead opt for an ocean adventure in a secluded lagoon. However, when Ceto, the ill-treated killer whale, is secretly released after killing yet another employee, they find themselves caught up in a terrifying situation. Stuck in an atoll – with the ocean’s apex predator hunting them.
As past secrets are revealed and the situation becomes more precarious, survival seems impossible.
