Joanne Samuel is best known for her role as the screen wife of Mel Gibson in the 1979 film, Mad Max.
Joanne has worked with many of Australia’s great actors, directors and cinematographers in theatre, film and TV. She has made guest appearances on TV in A Country Practice and GP, as well as police shows, Matlock Police and Homicide. She was also a regular cast member in television soap operas, including Class of ‘74, The Sullivans, The Young Doctors and Skyways. Jo later guest starred in Hey Dad! as Jeanette Taylor, and played the school principal in the Wiggles Movie.
More recently she appeared in ABC TV’s Rake, An Acute Misfortune, with a lead role in Smoke Between Trees seeing her return to the big screen.
Joanne is a long time advocate for the arts education of children. She has taught drama for many years in the Blue Mountains, and is the founder and director of 3 Sisters Youth Theatre. Joanne has been directing both on stage and screen and made her directorial debut on her first feature film, The Five: Earth.
