Harry Waters Jr. is the man behind one of the most legendary moments in Back to the Future — as Marvin Berry, bandleader of Marvin Berry and the Starlighters. At the iconic Enchantment Under the Sea dance, Marvin and his band are keeping things smooth… until Marty McFly jumps on stage and absolutely shreds “Johnny B. Goode.”
The result? One of the funniest and most unforgettable scenes in movie history — where Marvin calls his cousin Chuck Berry mid-performance, accidentally inspiring a rock ’n’ roll classic.
It’s a small role with massive impact — and a scene that still gets cheers decades later.
Harry Waters Jr.’s career goes well beyond that iconic stage moment. A versatile performer, he’s appeared across film and television with roles in projects like Forrest Gump and the cult classic The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.
On television, he’s popped up in a range of fan-favourite series, including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Law & Order, and Days of Our Lives — showcasing his range from comedy to drama. Alongside his on-screen work, he’s also a musician, bringing authentic energy to performance roles and adding to the credibility of that unforgettable band scene in Back to the Future.
