Darren Koziol is the creator of DARK OZ – one of Australia’s leading independent publishers, consistently producing high quality comic book anthologies since 2010, showcasing over 200 artists & writers Australia wide, including a few international guests. Many featured creators have gained additional work (in film, TV, advertising, etc) since DARK OZ comics double as catalogues of artistic talents for clients to browse. DARK OZ comics are perhaps best known for the highly acclaimed series’ ‘DECAY’ and ‘Retro Sci-Fi Tales’.
Recently Darren has adapted, written and produced a series of four ‘Ozploitation Classics’, official Australian movie comic book adaptations, illustrated by the finest artists from DARK OZ comics. As a ‘muscle car enthusiast’, you will often find Darren’s own cars, illustrated by various artists, drawn into the comic books.
Darren is the main author of DARK OZ comics, as well as the art director, editor, letterer and designer. He has been published in Heavy Metal magazine (the world’s foremost illustrated fantasy comic – his story selected for inclusion by Kevin Eastman), Clive Barker tribute books and various indie comics, yet prefers self publishing for the creative freedom. He regularly exhibits at events Australia wide and was an exhibitor at San Diego Comic Con in 2016.
Currently in production is the 11th amazing issue of ‘Retro Sci-Fi Tales’, an epic ‘Captain Ice’ Graphic Novel, a bloodcurdling Vampire ‘Sisters’ mini-series, the third issue of ‘Silver City’ (the world’s only Mad Max fan magazine) and a new movie project. Darren is also establishing further distribution channels, including the first ever DARK OZ hardcover books and internationally translated editions. Look for a Kickstarter campaign running NOW for ‘Retro Sci-Fi Tales #11’.
