Darren Koziol is the creator of DARK OZ (est. 2009)–one of Australia’s leading independent publishers, consistently producing high quality comic book anthologies since 2010, showcasing over 200 artists & writers Australia wide, along with a number of international guests. Many featured creators have gained additional work (in film, TV, etc) as DARK OZ comics double as catalogues of artistic talent for clients to browse. DARK OZ comics are best known for the highly acclaimed series’ ‘DECAY’ and ‘Retro Sci-Fi Tales.’

‘STING’, the 2024 horror movie, features pages of Australian comic book art supplied by Darren and DARK OZ comics. Working with the Film Industry, Darren has adapted, written and produced the first ever official Australian movie comic book adaptations, of ‘Ozploitation Classics’, illustrated by DARK OZ artists. As a ‘muscle car enthusiast’, you will often find Darren’s own cars, illustrated by various artists, drawn into the comic books (including the movie comics). Darren produces Mad Max fan magazines, souvenir film magazines for Australian cinemas, and always has new comic book projects in development.

Darren is the main author of DARK OZ comics (creating multiple characters and worlds), as well as being the art director, editor, letterer and designer. He has been published in ‘Heavy Metal’ magazine (the world’s foremost illustrated fantasy comic – his story chosen by Kevin Eastman), Clive Barker tribute books and various indie comics, yet prefers self publishing for the creative freedom. Darren has created internationally translated editions of DARK OZ comics in hardcover books. He regularly exhibits at events Australia wide, since 2010, and was an official exhibitor at San Diego Comic Con (in 2016).
