About Guest

Bird Drone is an animated short film that follows a lonely seagull looking for love, who struggles to accept that his newfound object of affection is a human-operated drone with a limited battery life.

Lonely seagull Sammy is unlucky in love – all the birds around him seem to be sharing their foraged snacks, pairing up and leaving him behind. When he encounters an elegant (and interested!) drone, Sammy finally believes he’s found the relationship he’s been looking for. But their sun-drenched romance is threatened when the drone begins to run out of battery life and fly back to its human controller.

Bird Drone won the grand prize in the Best Australian Short Film Competition run by Perth Now and SAE Creative Media Institute. The film was shortlisted out of over 8,000 entries in the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2024, and has been selected in eight Academy Award-Qualifying film festivals around the world.
