About Guest
Terry Skrinjar first became interested in cosplay at Supanova in Brisbane in 2017 when he decided to set himself a challenge: to build a fully-functioning, seven-and-a-half-foot, to-scale Warhammer Space Marine costume with the intent on unveiling it (and a second marine plus a Sister of Battle) at Supanova 2018 – Gold Coast.
With no experience in creating or manufacturing cosplay costumes, it meant many hours of experimenting with different materials, learning to walk, dance and move on the costume’s in-built stilts and work the mechanics of the fully articulated fingers while ensuring that the costume had the authentic look and feel of a real-life Space Marine.
He had no idea that just seven short months later he would be on a jet to Hollywood to star in a live-action film as an actual Space Marine.
With photos of the incredible creation being shared widely online by his growing army of fans, Terry’s costumes quickly came to the attention of Canadian-based cinematic designer, Richard Boylan. Mr Boylan, whose work includes Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mass Effect: Andromeda and Star Wars: Battlefront 2, and Angels of Death (2021), said he had been keen to create a live-action film featuring the Warhammer universe for some time.
Calling on Hollywood producer Boman Modine who did the visual effects for The Dark Knight Rises and produced the Warhammer series Angels of Death (2021), they decided to create the short film, Guardsman.
His next call was to Terry, inviting him to fly to Hollywood to be both costumer and actor in the short film.
During filming, Terry said that he worked in 40 plus degree heat while wearing full body armour, walking and running on stilts, taking direction and staying in character, but says the experience was worth every second. Currently sitting at just under 7 million views, Guardsman is held as the pinnacle of live-action Warhammer 40k.
Terry Skrinjar has since made many other costumes and props for both him and others and is now in the process of creating the “Cosplay Workshop” for himself and others to create, teach and learn the myriad of skill sets required to create costumes and props.
