The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.
– Opening to the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan
A little while back we took a look at some of the great epic fantasy series viewers have to look forward to following the conclusion of HBO’s Game of Thrones. One of those series in particular, the adaptation of the best-selling fantasy series The Wheel of Time by the late Robert Jordan, we noted as having enough potential source material to not only match Game of Thrones’ enormous eight-season run but to even surpass it by a wide margin.
The Wheel of Time is considered by many to be one of the finest and most detailed examples of modern fantasy storytelling. Jordan’s loyal fans have long been clamouring to have these books make their way onto our screens, and now, not only is the series adaptation a reality, we also finally know who will be playing WoT’s main characters, thanks to a recent announcement from Amazon Prime who are producing the new show.
So, sit back and get ready to meet the cast of The Wheel of Time.
Moiraine Damodred – Played by Rosamund Pike
Moiraine Damodred is a legendary magic-user, known as an Aes Sedai from an ancient all-female order of scholars, healers, philosophers and magicians. For centuries her order has hunted men who have the potential to use magic and cut them off from the source of their power, as, for reasons that will be revealed, any man who uses magic will be driven to madness.

Unless you hail from Holland or are a fan of Dutch indie filmmaking, it’s pretty unlikely you will have encountered Stradowski previously. Whilst a familiar sight on Dutch TV, Wheel of Time promises to be his first major international role.
Egwene Al’Vere – played by Madeleine Madden

Madeleine Madden in ‘Tomorrow, When The War Began’
Raised in the same village as Rand, it was once thought that the young couple would be destined to wed, until Moiraine came riding into town shortly ahead of disaster. As it turns out, destiny had other plans afoot for the young tavern keeper’s daughter – but the road she must travel to get there will be far from easy.

Matrim Cauthon – played by Barney Harris

Barney Harris
A close friend of Rand, and usually the village black sheep responsible for getting him and their other friend, Perrin, into trouble, Matrim “Mat” Cauthon is also destined for far greater things than his life in Two Rivers as the eldest of five. Eventually becoming Marshal-General of an army known as The Band of the Red Hand, Mat is a brilliant tactician and one of the finest military minds the world has ever seen. He possesses extraordinary luck, which stretches from the card table all the way through to the battlefield.

Perrin Aybara – played by Marcus Rutherford

Marcus Rutherford
Another of Rand’s close childhood friends, Perrin is an apprentice to the local blacksmith, and whilst his stocky build would suggest he is capable of great violence, he is quietly spoken and very slow to anger. Often the voice of reason, which is shouted down by Mat’s exuberant schemes, Perrin ends up becoming a dream walker and a Wolf Brother, one who can communicate telepathically with wolves. Like all his friends, a great destiny awaits the gentle Perrin.

Rutherford has only been acting professionally for the past two years, and in that time he is probably best known for his role in the BBC comedy Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators.

After being orphaned at age 14, Nynaeve was apprenticed to the village healer, Wisdom. Following the Wisdom’s death of old age, Nynaeve rose to become the youngest Wisdom in the history of the region and has an almost uncanny knack for healing, which turns out to be the result of her own innate abilities with One Power.
When Rand, Perrin, Mat and Egwene find themselves swept up in the adventure along with Moiraine, Nynaeve takes it upon herself to follow and bring them back home safely.
