Story by Mark Beresford
Our favourite flashback sci-fi show, Stranger Things, is within reach, and every teaser up until now has pulled us further and further in with each snippet of info.
With its Halloween setting, Ghostbusters costumes and Vincent Price voiceover from MJ’s Thriller, there’s been more pop culture references wedged into each trailer then you could swing a Mogwai at. With all that’s been shown, however, we still have some BIG questions.
What happened to Eleven?
At the conclusion of season one, Eleven disappeared into (we assume) the upside-down after destroying the Demogorgon, but since we know she’s coming back for season two, where did she go?
During the trailer, she whispers, ‘find me’ at Mike, who is staring at a secluded log cabin – could this tell us something?
Does she come straight back like the trailer suggests? Or is it that she’s been hiding out for months, explaining her longer hair in certain images. With one episode in season two called The Secret Cabin, it may suggest that she ran from the school not long after the boys themselves left.
How is Will?
Is Will the villain this season? The Duffers have diverted this in the past and somewhat teased it that the aforementioned Shadow Monster is referred to as a ‘shape’ and not a creature itself.
Demogorgon is theorised amongst fans to be from Eleven’s psyche, so does this mean Will has the Shadow Monster? We know he is being chased by the shadows in the school hall and he’s still being tested on by the Department of Energy at Hawkins Lab.
Though the drawings Will makes in his room in the trailer could be of the Shadow Monster itself, they also looks suspiciously like the tunnels the cast are seen walking through later.
We don’t know if those coughing slugs and flashbacks are Will’s link to the upside-down or if it’s something more sinister and within. Either way, Will is likely the biggest piece to this season’s puzzle.
Where does Hopper fit?
Our last time with Hopper was when he was seemingly working with the “Department of Energy” in Hawkins, though the trailer points us to thinking that it may have been a ploy to investigate it further and potentially shut it down.
The trailers tell us he has some inside information, and whether it Will, Eleven or Hawkins itself, he is defending something and knows where the danger is coming from. Perhaps there’s more to his daughter’s fate than what we’ve been shown?
How are the Gang?
Not to beat around the bush, this is a group of thirteen-year-old kids who discovered a demonic plane of existence, went toe-to-toe with a creature more menacing than they could have imagined, almost died a dozen times and did it all without any real help until the final phase. If you think the Duffers won’t give these kids some signs of inner turmoil, you’d be mistaken.
WHERE THE HELL IS BARB?!
We aren’t going to get any answers for our favourite red haired sidekick, as we essentially watched her demise last season. However, she will play a part in season two as we see Mr. and Mrs. Holland trying to “Find Barb” throughout.
The second season of Stranger Things drops at 6pm AEDT today and you can meet Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) at Supanova 2017 – Brisbane (10-12 November) and Adelaide (18-19 November).
