It’s well established that Australia’s local film scene produces some of the best content in the world, and with Supanova Brisbane and Adelaide just around the corner, we thought it would be good to introduce you to the next batch of Aussie classics making an appearance during the events.
BLUE WORLD ORDER (Brisbane & Adelaide)
What:
One of five films we’re very excited about is Blue World Order, an Aussie made sci-fi featuring The Hobbit actor Stephen Hunter, Jack Thompson, The Phantom’s Billy Zane and Home And Away star Jake Ryan that’s set in a post-apocalyptic world. An electromagnetic pulse has killed all but two, Molly (Billie Rutherford), the daughter of Jake Slater (Jake Ryan).
When & Where:
The film gets epic premieres (proudly sponsored by Supanova) in both Brisbane (Nov 14) and Adelaide (Nov 19).
Both screenings will be accompanied by Q&A sessions with writer/director/producer Ché Baker and Hunter and after parties, while Supanova punters can take advantage of a DeLorean photo opp at the Blue World Order booth.
If that wasn’t enough, Adelaide fans will get the chance to meet and quiz Hunter further during his Supanova appearance.
Head to the film’s website for more info and tickets.
GARRISON 7 (Brisbane Only)
What:
An awesome cast and intense story sees an elite Special Forces commander targeted by an intergalactic manhunt after he uncovers a military conspiracy.
When & Where:
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this one, so it’s fitting the TITAN stand at Supanova Brisbane is going to have some next level Garrison 7 content. The attention to detail in this film is world-class and the result is some amazing props and costumes, some of which you’ll have the chance to interact with while meeting the Garrison 7: The Fallen authors, Kynan Waterford and Scott Brewer.
One of the props you’ll be able to explore (and actually interact with rather than just taking some snaps of) is the S-NOVA TITA, which is five tonnes of pure, raw power.
After a Supanova world premiere exclusive at the Gold Coast earlier this year, the team behind Garrison 7 will setup their stunning Illusion FX show in Brisbane at the ILLUSIONSFX stand (Friday 12:40pm & 4:00pm, Sat & Sun 9:40am & 2:00pm).
The 20-minute high-energy show fuses film, magic, aerial stunts and music, some of which you’ll also see in the film, with the live show featuring international Illusionist, Apollo Jackson (who recently played the Hulk’s body double in Thor Ragnarok and appeared on The Bachelorette).
Enlist to the G7 newsletter via the film’s website to be kept up to date as news emerges.
SPACE/TIME (Brisbane only)
What:
Crime meets sci-fi in upcoming flick Space/Time, which, judging from its trailer, will deliver what its title promises and so much more. The film follows a group of scientists who are developing an engine for interstellar travel, but after the project causes a fatal disaster, they’re forced to employ criminal activities to finance and rebuild the operation.
When & Where:
There are a lot of questions fans have about the new sci-fi effort from director Michael O’Halloran and writer Adam Harmer, which stars Ashlee Lollback, Hugh Parker and Pacharo Mzembe, so the timing of their Supaova Brisbane Q&A couldn’t be better.
It’s clear from the teasers so far music plays a big role in driving the story, which is why composer Adrian Diery will join the talent listed above on the Space/Time panel. It will be following by a brief singing session.
The Space/Time site has more info and an awesome behind-the-scenes look at Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s role in the film.
3010 THE RIGHTEOUS PATH (Brisbane Only)
What:
Aptly set in the 3010, this Queensland-filmed short sci-fi follows surviving genetically engineered super soldier, Aarin, who is living on an Earth ravaged by war and conquered by an alien race.
He’s based out of Jersey Town, the last remaining human controlled society, and while he’s never failed in a task, 3010 The Righteous Path delivers one that tests his limits.
Where & Where:
There’ll be an exclusive concept screening at Supanova Brisbane on November 11, where fans can meet select cast and crew, including Simon Smith (creator, director, writer), Michael Rodrigues (creator, writer, “Aarin”), Emma Green (development producer), Bianca Maeseele (producer, costume designer), John Batchelor (“Victor”) and Carly Rees – (“Kira”, stunt performer). Fun fact: Rees was Scarlett Johansson’s stunt double in Ghost In The Shell.
PROJECT EDEN: VOL. 1 (Brisbane Only)
What:
Part one in an epic two-part series, Project Eden comes from Australian writers/directors Ashlee Jensen and Terrance M. Young and was shot across the US, New Zealand and Australia. It follows a young woman, aided by an ex-military officer, who becomes an unwitting fugitive after falling headfirst into a global conspiracy.
Its star-studded cast features Stargate SG-1 and Syfy Channel alumnus Mike Dopud, Cliff Simon and Erick Avari, alongside local legends Anna Mcgahan (Underbelly, House Husbands), Paul O’Brien (Home and Away) and Mansoor Noor (Cleverman).
When & Where:
Having just scored a theatrical release date in the US and with DVDs for sale at Supanova, you can join the Jensen, Young, O’Brien, Noor, Pete Valley (Open Water 3 – Cage Dive) and Vincent B Gore (Rise, Neighbours) for a special Q&A session in Brisbane. The DVD features some awesome behind-the-scenes footage to tie you over until Vol 2.
