Fact Or Fiction? Is DC Planning To Introduce Zatanna In Keanu Reeves’ ‘Constantine 2’?

Written by TC Phillips - August 20, 2026Daniel Cribb

Two things the internet is never short on are angry people and cat memes. That, and a ton of rumours relating to almost every movie franchise and IP imaginable. But how, dear reader, is one supposed to sort out the real Hollywood scuttlebutt from the baseless conjecture?

Well, thankfully, we’ve rolled out an old favourite piece of equipment from the Supanova broom closet, and plugged the Scuttlebutt-o-meter©®™ (Patent Pending) to feel out what truths may lie behind recent whispers of plans to introduce a fan favourite DC magic user in a long-belated sequel.

What’s the Goss?

It was over six years ago that we first looked into rumours that Warner Bros. was looking to get Keanu Reeves back for a sequel to his 2005 outing as John Constantine in Constantine 2.

As it turns out, there was some substance to those original rumours, and that film is currently in development with original director Francis Lawrence and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (Titans, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds).

Now, however, as Reeves’ return to the big screen as John Constantine is one step closer to becoming a reality, a fresh set of rumours has hinted that the movie will also seek to introduce the character of Zatanna.

Where Did All This Come From?

News of Constantine 2 officially broke in September 2022, some two years after we first poked into the rumours floating around in 2020. More recently, Reeves himself confirmed that both he and Lawrence had already successfully pitched their movie treatment to the new DC leadership earlier last year, namely to DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.

While the project has not yet received an official greenlight, word is that the script is still in the process of being refined. And, more interestingly, whispers on the interwebs would have it that the script will introduce Constantine’s on again/off again love interest, Zatanna.

These rumours have further been bolstered by the fact that in 2021, Warner Bros. had previously announced a solo Zatanna movie that was to be penned by Academy Award winner Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman, Saltburn). While that project would later be shelved in the leadership reshuffle that birthed the new DCU, Gunn’s DC Studios have already hinted at Zatanna’s presence via a sneaky nod to Club Vesuvius (the nightclub where she performs her magic stage show) in the Clayface trailer.

What’s the Verdict?

Given that the DCU is potentially already laying the groundwork for an eventual Zatanna reveal, at first glance it would not seem too far out of the question for her to make her first big-screen appearance sometime soon.

Having only previously appeared in live action in Smallville (played by Serinda Swan), fans are already chomping at the bit to see her character cross over to the movies.

That being said, the bigger question will be whether Gunn and Safran would allow her character to show up in Constantine 2, which is reportedly going to be released as an Elseworlds movie unconnected to the main DCU timeline, especially seeing as they’ve already begun hinting at her character in Clayface.

As such, we fed all the relevant details into the Scuttlebutt-o-meter©®™ , and after reciting a bunch of reverse incantations and performing a little sleight-of-hand, it spat out two numbers:

Firstly, it gave the possibility of Zatanna showing up in the main DCU at a healthy 68.54% likelihood – meaning it’s probably safe to assume we’ll see her character on the screen at some point. However, as for Constantine 2, it only came in at a much lower 42.12%, reminding us that the project hasn’t even been officially greenlit yet.

As such, it’s probably best to declare this rumour: Possible, but contingent on a lot of other factors.
