In a massive win for the Australian eSports and gaming landscape, a number of pro teams have joined forces with Sydney Cricket Ground in a game-changing new deal.
As ESPN reports, SCG will host three teams – including Supanova’s very own Supa-Stellar – in “a dedicated high performance centre” in the same precinct that A-list cricket, rugby and AFL players call home.
“Our venues are rapidly expanding their technology offerings and partnering with professional eSports entities and establishing the state of the art training centre presents an exciting opportunity,” said Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust chief executive Jamie Barkley.
The deal was facilitated by the University of Technology Sydney and will also see League of Legends Oceania champions and LG Dire Wolves setup at SCG’s world-class facility.
After appearing at Supanova Brisbane and Adelaide earlier this month, Supa-Stellar – a mixed Counter-Strike: Global Offensive group focused on female development – announced they would be rebuilding their team before moving into SCG in 2018.
Keep an eye on their Twitter, @supastellar, as they’ll be making an announcement on recruitment soon.
