Paul Mason Artis on The Soldier Legacy

Paul Mason is a Brisbane-based comic-book artist and writer, and creator of ‘The Soldier Legacy’, an Australian action-hero comic series published by one of Australia’s largest independent comic book publishers, Black House Comics.

In late 2011 Paul’s comic character featured as part of a nationally televised commercial campaign for Youi Insurance (an event that captured the notice of comics fans internationally via ‘Bleeding Cool news’). Paul has also had comic book pages from ‘the Soldier Legacy’ feature in a Griffith University postgraduate art exhibition in Gympie, at the 25th Anniversary of Griffith Film school Animation exhibition in Brisbane, and pages were also shortlisted and on display at the 5th Jilin International Animation and Comics exhibition in China, 2011. His work has been published in titles such as Supanova’s ‘Tides of Hope’, the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con souvenir book, the upcoming novel “Who is Killing the Great Heroes of Heropa?” by author Andrez Bergen, and has featured on the Jack Kirby Museum website, via ‘Kirby-Vision’.

In addition, Paul recently completed illustrating and co-plotting a ‘Soldier Legacy’ cross-over story within the pages of Black House Comic’s “Dark Detective: Sherlock Holmes”, featuring the Victorian era villain Doctor Nikola coming face to face with the 1887 version of ‘the Soldier Legacy’. This was scripted and co-plotted by internationally-published writer, Christopher Sequeira. The first parts appeared in newsagents across Australia, with the complete adventure now available as a single issue release in 2013.

Paul has so far released several issues of his series, including a trade paperback edition in 2012, and another one in the works for 2013. Along with a spot on the Australian team for the I.T.F World Taekwon-do championships in Korea, and some projects you might need to twist his arm to find out about, Paul will be busy indeed in 2013!

Paul looks forward to seeing all his fans at the Gold Coast and Melbourne Supanova Expos, where he will be appearing both days of each event Between 10 am and 5 pm.
