Paul Mason is an Australia comic book illustrator and writer of The Soldier Legacy; an Australian action-hero comic book series and trade paperback published by Black House Comics. He is also a sessional lecturer in drawing, visual storytelling and sequential art at the Queensland College of Arts, Griffith University, and is completing a Doctorate in Visual Arts (DVA).
In late 2011, Paul’s comic series featured in a national TV commercial campaign for Youi Insurance (an event that captured the notice of comics fans internationally via ‘Bleeding Cool news’). His work has been published in a number of titles, such as the Australian comic series Dark Detective: Sherlock Holmes (by writer Christopher Sequeira (X-Men vs Vampires, Justice League Adventures, Astonishing Tales; Iron Man) and illustrator Phil Cornell for Black House Comics) which was distributed in Newsagents nationally, Supanova’s Tides of Hope anthology comic book, the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con souvenir book, and the US release of The New Adventures of The Human Fly #1 (with Tony Babinski, scriptwriter for the upcoming Human Fly film), based on the 1970’s Marvel Comics character, and real life masked stuntman! Among other projects, he is currently working on his next trade paperback volume of The Soldier Legacy.
Paul has had his illustrations on display at the 25th Anniversary of Griffith Film School Animation exhibition 2012, Shadow of the Mouse animation and comic art exhibition in Brisbane (October 2013), and pages from The Soldier Legacy were also shortlisted and displayed at the 5th Jilin International Animation and Comics exhibition in China, 2011.
Outside of Comics, Paul competes in I.T.F Taekwon-do, notably in 4 World I.T.F Taekwon-do Championships, winning a bronze medal in Team Power Breaking in 2005, and an individual bronze in Hyper-weight Sparring in Birmingham, UK 2007. After competing in the 2013 World Championships in London, he is currently the assistant/sparring coach for Team Australia, and training to competing at the Unified World Championships in Tuscany in October/November 2014
