Heder grew up in Salem, Oregon and attended Brigham Young University in Utah. While at BYU he studied animation and began appearing in student-produced short films. One of these films, a comedy called Peluca, was expanded to the feature length film Napoleon Dynamite and earned a screening at the Sundance Film Festival. Its surprising success at the festival led to national distribution, and by the end of 2004 Heder’s portrayal of the hapless Napoleon was being imitated across the United States and the film had grossed more than a hundred times what it cost to make.

The film did more than just propel the young actor into celebrity; it also galvanized an entire generation of nerds, geeks and dweebs who could relate to being shoved into lockers, playing lonely games of tetherball and their pocketful of Tater-Tots being smashed by class bullies. Heder’s career as an actor took off.

He next appeared in the Reese Witherspoon romantic comedy Just Like Heaven, and landed roles in other comedies including the animated feature Monster House. Heder continued to land plum comedic roles in such films as The Benchwarmers, School for Scoundrels and Blades of Glory. The latter was a box office hit and solidified his status as a rising comedic talent.

After playing one of Kristen Bell’s suitors in the romantic comedy When in Rome, Heder returned to the role that made him famous with the animated series Napoleon Dynamite, which featured most of the main players from the original cast.

Jon next appears on the big screen as Roy in Walt Before Mickey, a film based on the early years of Walt Disney, due for release in August 2015.
