How Can I Enter?
The Odyssey is an advanced-level competition with high stakes, and we expect a great deal of interest. Due to this, entry will be by application only, with no on-the-day registrations. There are three components necessary to enter:
- Your online application: applications will generally open 8 weeks prior to the start of each double event (April, June, November) and close three weeks later. Shortly afterwards applicants will be informed whether their entry was successful or not. The application will ask you for details including name and contact number, a short biography, three photos for publicity purposes (and to demonstrate some experience in cosplay), information about the character you intend to portray, a clear reference image, and photos/ description of your progress so far.
Should your application be successful, you’ll be provided with more details on what you’ll need for the event itself. This will include a written brief on your costume to supply the MCs with (for example, describing details of your costume for them to read out while you’re on stage), as well as a folio with additional progress photos to show the judges and demonstrate your hard work. - Prejudging: prejudging will take place on the day of the competition, and allows the judges the opportunity to see your hard work up close and in detail. You can draw the judges’ attention to aspects you’re particularly proud of, as well as show them intricacies they may not be able to see from the audience while you’re on stage.
- Onstage Presentation: the final component of your entry will take place on stage in front of an audience. Although The Odyssey does not include skits, this display will take into account your stage presence and in-character movement.
Please note, if you consider yourself to be at a beginner’s level in cosplay, we recommend you enter the Supanova Cosplay Competition (presented by Madman) on the Saturday instead. The Odyssey will be there to enter in the future as your skills develop!
