Tom Savini began his adventure into the movie business with the philosophy that “The more you do the more you GET to do.” He has been the special make up effects artist behind all the blood curdling effects, and characters, such as Jason in the FRIDY THE 13TH franchise, Leatherface in TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, and all the monsters and effects in George Romero’s CREEPSHOW and nine other Romero projects, as well as doing the stunts and playing characters. He directed for George Romero the remake of his classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, after directing three of the best episodes of his TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE television show. He was a combat photographer in the Army (Vietnam 1969-70) and earned the nickname the “King of Splatter” for all his grisly, decade long realistic make up effects work during the 80’s splatter craze in films like DAWN OF THE DEAD, DAY OF THE DEAD, MANIAC, KILLING ZOE, THE PROWLER, THE BURNING, just to name a few.

You would also find Tom choreographing a musical, or staging the fights. (Tom is a tournament fencer) He is also an accomplished gymnast, which led to performing many of the stunts in his films, like falling down long flights of stairs, or diving off a 50 foot high shopping mall balcony or getting hit by trucks or driving a motor cycle through a plate glass window.

Tom is also an author, having published GRANDE ILLUSIONS and GRANDE ILLUSIONS BOOK TWO, describing the art and technique of special make up effects. His Special Make Up Effects School, at the Douglas Education Center, is a raging success since it opened with students steadily coming in from all over the world.

Where versatility is frowned upon in the arts, Tom has proven in his long and multifaceted career, along with his acting assignments like “Sex Machine” in the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriquez film FROM DUSK TIL DAWN, and Deputy Tolo in Rodriquez’s GRINDHOUSE, the Interrogator in TED BUNDY, the serial killer in DEAD 4TOLD, and THE SADIST, Osiris Amanpour in MACHETE and MACHETE KILLS, and most recently Tracker Chaney in Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED…that…. “The more you do ….the more you GET to do.”

Tom Savini’s series, SALEM, has just had its film schedule moved forward from December to mid-November meaning its impossible for him to come down for our November tour. He is very upset in having to disappoint his fans but hopes to come down here sometime not too further down the track.
