Michal Dutkiewicz started as an abstract painter in the late 1970s, but moved into commercial illustration and from there moved into Science Fiction and Fantasy illustration.
In 1988 he moved into Comic Books and had great success illustrating for various American publishers starting on such projects as Justice Machine and Hero Alliance. He received his first of three awards for his comic book work at this time. He then produced a large quantity of work on Lost in Space for both Innovation and later for Bubblehead Publishing, then moved to DC Comics and drew Superman and the very successful Movie Adaptation of Batman Forever, also drawing Team Titans, The Spectre, Psyba Rats, R.E.B.E.L.S., and Catwoman.
He then drew Wolverine for Marvel Comics as well as A Girl Called Willow for Angel Publishing and erotic comics for Hustler Publishing. He has also done trading cards for Image, Frew and Marvel and did a Star Wars cover for Dark Horse Comics.
From 1999 through 2006 he worked mainly for Australian Consolidated Press producing cartoons and high quality Pin Ups for Picture Magazine, which led to the production of two books on his Pin Up work published by Sal Quartuccio in the USA.
From 2006 until present, he has been under contract to Angel Phoenix Media to develop a series of projects as both illustrator and designer. Prominent amongst this work is the books Dragonscarpe and its sequel Triumvirate.
He works in a combination of digital and traditional styles and has done cartooning, storyboarding, graphic design including typographic design and illustration for magazines, film companies, album covers and children’s books as well as corporate illustration and design.
Currently, Michal is working on a new book of Pin Ups, four comic projects and a series of Science Fiction covers and a new series of digital abstracts
He is the three-time recipient of the Australian Black and White Artists/ACA Stanley Award for Best Australian Adventure Strip Artist.
Michal looks forward to meeting all his fans in Adelaide in November 2016, and will participate in signing sessions throughout Saturday (10.30am to 5.30pm) and Sunday (11am to 5pm) in Adelaide.
