Manu Bennett is a New Zealand actor, best known for his roles from The Hobbit trilogy, and television shows The Shannara Chronicles, Arrow and Spartacus: War of the Damned.

As a child, Manu was raised mostly between Sydney and Newcastle. While he was a talented athlete, Manu was more interested in modern dancing, classical ballet and piano, and attended university to study dance and drama before travelling to Los Angeles on a scholarship to attend The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.

Manu’s acting career kicked off in 1993 with the teen soapie, Paradise Beach. He went on to make a number of appearances on Australian TV including, Water Rats, All Saints, and Beastmaster.

In 1999 Manu landed his first leading role in the feature film Tomoko. The following year he starred in Xena: Warrior Princess as Marc Antony, then scored a role opposite Anthony La Paglia in the award winning Australian film Lantana – where he was able to display his dancing skills as a salsa dance teacher.

Following this, Manu went on to be cast in several other films: The Marine, The Condemned and 30 Days of Night.

In 2011 he starred as Crixus in Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, and later reprised his role in Spartacus: War of the Damned. 

Between 2012 and 2014 Manu filmed The Hobbit trilogy, playing the physical and vocal performer who creates the animated character of Azog The Defiler.

Manu recently starred in the smash hit CW series Arrow as Slade Wilson, who is best known to fans as Deathstroke, and currently stars as Allanon in The Shannara Chronicles, a fantasy drama based on the books by Terry Brooks.


Manu looks forward to meeting all his fans on the Gold Coast and in Melbourne in April 2016.

Manu will conduct a general admission Q&A each weekend, and participate in signing and photo sessions* throughout each Saturday (10.30am to 5.30pm) and Sunday (11am to 5pm) in both cities.
