David Michael Hasselhoff was born on July 17, 1952 in Baltimore, Maryland. The acting bug first hit when David was seven and so he took acting, singing and dancing lessons. He was very shy off stage in front of girls because he was tall and thin, but when he was on stage he was in his element. Due to his father’s work, his family (he has four sisters) moved around frequently. He thought his career was going to go in the direction of musicals and Broadway, but, while in California, he became successful on The Young and the Restless and his fate as an actor was sealed.
He rose to fame in the 80′s with Knight Rider but contiued into the 90′s with Baywatch and countless TV specials, he is a veritable small-screen institution. In recent years, his popularity has grown with Generation Y audiences due to his reputation as an Internet meme, (or viral online superstar), known simply as ‘The Hoff’.
The Hoff incarnates in many forms; whether you know him as the driver of K.I.T.T. the intelligent crime-solving car, or jogging along the beach in his tiny red Speedos with Pamela Anderson, or flaunting those cheeky bedroom eyes on the cover of one of his may solo CDs, David Hasselhoff is a ubiquitous pop-culture icon.
A testament to the power of persistence, Baywatch was cancelled after its first season but was later resuscitated by its star, Hasselhoff, and went on to become one of the world’s most watched TV shows over ten more seasons (as noted by the Guinness Book of World Records). As an investor and executive producer, Hasselhoff receives royalties from the re-runs.
Recently he has appeared as himself in cult movies referencing his celebrity, and judged talent shows such as Dancing With the Stars, America’s Got Talent, and Britain’s Got Talent. His single, Looking for Freedom, can be heard on the soundtrack of the upcoming Wachowski epic, Cloud Atlas.
David looks forward to meeting all his fans at both the Sydney and Perth expos in 2013. There are signing* and photo* sessions throughout each Saturday (10.30am to 5.30pm) and Sunday (11am to 5pm) excluding breaks and there’s a general admission Q&A during each weekend.
