W. Chew ‘Chewie’ Chan is a veteran storyboard/concept artist and comics illustrator, working on movies like Mad Max: Fury Road, Superman Returns, and the Academy Award winning Happy Feet and drawing such comic books and characters like Marvel Entertainment’s Iron Man; The Phantom for Frew Publishing, Buckaroo Banzai for Moonstone Books; and Cthulhu Tales for Boom! Studios.
During his time as Graphic Novel Supervisor at Kennedy Miller Mitchell/Dr D Studios, Chewie worked on Warner Bros’ highly anticipated but ultimately aborted Justice League: Mortal. Whilst there, he also worked on director George Miller’s (Mad Max, Babe) first ever graphic novel.
Chewie is also a Comics Consultant (clients include Kinokuniya Bookstores of Australia and SBS Online), and hence is a highly sought after speaker and analyst. He lectured at the UTS Master of Animation, regularly runs graphic novel workshops for the New South Wales Writer’s Centre and the Sydney Writer’s Festival and writes for Bookseller & Publisher Magazine. He looks forward to soon surprising genre fans with his and long-time collaborator Christopher Sequeira’s The Exoneration of Doctor Fu Manchu graphic novel!
Chewie looks forward to meeting all his fans on the Gold Coast in April 2016, and will participate in signing sessions throughout Saturday (10.30am to 5.30pm) and Sunday (11am to 5pm).
