Blue Gillespie

Blue Gillespie are a progressive rock/metal trio from Newport South Wales. Their sound is aimed at fans who like their music loud, tighter than a drum skin, and unapologetically real. Formed in November 2007 they have released two EPs, Cave County 1 and the more acoustic Cave County 2,  and two albums, Synesthesia and May 4th 2012 saw the launch of their highly anticipated second album Seven Rages of Man.

BG received a hugely positive press  and fan response for both the Cave Country EPs and Synesthesia and say; “the support focused and disciplined us and with our latest album Seven Rages of Man, we were able to express what we wanted to say, in exactly the way we wanted to say it. That others are affected by our music makes the whole process even more fulfilling.”

The structure for Seven Rages of Man was inspired by Shakespeare’s seven ages speech from As You Like it. It’s divided into a Prologue, Epilogue and seven Acts. Besides the Shakespearian influence there are also elements of Greek Tragedy, Mythology and Modern Philosophy, all supporting one constant through line, an exploration of human rage.

It explores the nature of rage, in its many forms, in all seven ages of man. There are different characters, locations, countless shades of anger, and the very near quenching of it. Starting at birth and concluding at death the album not only works as one piece of music but also as an unpretentious, catchy head banger. Mixed by Dub War and Skindred guitarist Jeff Rose at Junk Yard Studios, the band feel it is everything, and more than they’d hoped for. The band are now preparing for a 2012/13 live tour.

Blue Gillespie thrive on playing live, where their interaction with an enthusiastic audience brings their music to life. The band enjoys establishing a two-way connection with their audience which feeds the energy of the gig both on and in front of the stage.

Though they have crafted a sound that is distinctly their own, Blue Gillespie have been influenced by many artists including Meshuggah, Tool, Portishead and Down, and inspired by music from just about every genre.
