David Yardin

Artist of Storm, Black Panther and District X

Supanova is proud to present not only a local talent, not only a deadset real artist, but also one of the genuine nice guys of the comic-book industry. Just so happens he's incredibly talented and good-looking as well. did we mention that already?

After studying in the Philippines under acclaimed comic artist, Whilce Portacio, Australian artist David Yardin was offered his first comic book gig through Whilce, and partner Brian Haberlin's Avalon Studios. David's first published work was penciling 'Wicked: Medusa's Tale', and followed soon after with the 'Aria: The Soul Market' mini-series, both published by Image Comics.

With the birth of his first child David took a short break from comics, but still managed to provide some artwork for 'Wonder Woman Secret Files #3' with Phil Jimenez and Lan Medina, for DC Comics.

It wasn't long before David was asked to illustrate comics again full-time. This time however, David was given the opportunity to do his own inking and washes as well as pencil art. He also got to work with former 'Wicked' scribe Francis Takenaga again, and Hollywood special effects master, Stan Winston. The result: Stan Winston's 'Realm of the Claw' series from Image Comics.

This led to a guest artist spot on 'Silver Surfer #5' for Marvel Comics before David really hit the big-time pencilling the first story-arc of the new Marvel Knights title, 'District X', which was part of the X-Men Reload Event in May 2004. Such is the respect David is now held in that he was asked to step into the shoes of none other than John Romita Jr and continue the Black Panther. David's star rose even higher as he was handed the reins completely for the 'Storm' mini-series billed as the "Prelude to the Wedding of the Century" and was finally honoured with both the cover and interior artwork roles on What If.? X-Men: Deadly Genesis.

All this is only the beginning, and you can find out more about David and his work at http://www.davidyardin.com/ or better yet - come to Supanova and meet him in person! David will be signing copies of his comic-books and selling original pages, plus he'll be available to talk to throughout the weekend in Artists' Alley.
